Does anyone else's interest for their old consoles pickup this time of year? I picked up a PS3 at the end of the summer and haven't touched my Genesis or NES. Now the Christmas season approaching I'm getting that nostalgic itch to fire up the old consoles.
Ussualy yes, however late in the year there are quit a few new games on the market as well so that deffinatly distracts from my retro playing although this time a year it's fun to be inside playing anything. Durring the summer is when I will be out and about doing my retro game hunting and by fall/winter I can really go through what I picked up.
I like to cycle from one console to the next, but I do this purposefully; otherwise I get bored and get a "Gamer's Block". Right now I'm on a Genesis marathon.
This time of year? Not really, Christmastime is both when new games hit hard, and older current gen stuff goes on insane sales.
Summertime, when there is nothing coming out at all? Pull out the old stuff!
This is exactly what I do. I am on a Genesis Kick as well. I was just on a SNES marathon and before was only playing NES. I don't try to choose the systems, I just suddenly like one after another in cycles. The funny thing is I played Genesis a lot around this same time last year. I guess that's why I'm on this site so much now ;) I'm kidding of course this site just kicks ass :)Quote:

For some reason I get more into retro gaming in the summer months. Maybe I'm still programmed from my school days when I had summers off and it was video game time.
This is true especially for me. Being only 15 now I wasn't around when most of these games were out so to me it is 100% that I like the games better. I get the experience without the nostalgic value and I choose these games for their awesomeness! :rock:Quote:

Nostalgia can be a powerful feeling, but its also fleeting and does not last. Still being able to legitemently go back and enjoy older titles long afterwards? That is true appreciation, not nostalgia at work.
