LOVED the saturn to death. First games were VF2, Panzer Dragoon Zwei, and Sega Rally.
Tomb Raider literally blew me away. Shining Force 3 had me hooked. Then there was Fighters Megamix, NiGHTS, Sonic R etc
We were always fighting a losing battle, but I was loyal :)
Apart from Tomb Raider which has a better version on PS1 and Sonic R which imo is abysmal, the rest are great. Add Quake and Duke Nukem 3D (the best console ports) and you are set.
The Saturn amused me enough during its brief jaunt that I never "got" the PS1 or N64 when I eventually picked them up. It took me years to realize this was due to my genre preferences more than anything else.

The Saturn is my all-time favorite system. NiGHTS into Dreams, Burning Rangers, World Series Baseball '98, Sega Rally, Minnesota Fats Pool Legend, there are really just too many games to name. If I ever had to settle on one system to play for the rest of my life, it would probably be the Saturn. And I own almost all US stuff.
It's a shame the games are getting harder and harder to find, as well as much more expensive. Before you could get Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2 for cheap, now they're like $25+ apiece. What the heck?
Also, Tomb Raider on any system is a piece of shit, whether it be Saturn or PS1. One of the most overrated games of all-time.
And Sonic R is the shit. I played the hell out of the PC version long before I got it on Sega Saturn, but personally I love the game. Great gameplay, great soundtrack, great graphics for the time. The draw distance is kind of bad, and the game is overall short, but Sonic R gets way too much hate.
I don't mean to sound rude, but posts like this do not add to the conversation. Who cares if he made another thread on the Saturn? That one is a clusterfuck that's like 60 pages long anyway and no one would post. A new thread on this does not detract from the boards in any way than the multitude of +1s in Off-Topic.Quote:

I have to go with papa bear here. If anything OP probably made this thread because he saw the others. The prices don't surprise me, there weren't a ton of Saturn games printed and those that came in jewel boxes were bound to get destroyed. Plus all the Sega core games are desirable. Fuck MKR though, that lollipop's not worth $5.
@OP = put me down for the first Panzer Dragoon. Some find it too raw after Zwei but I say it's near perfect with much better music. Also check out Enemy Zero and Lunacy.
I like the Saturn, But mostly for fighting games, RPGs, shmups and some 2d and 3d games.
Wasn't all that impressed by Panzer Dragoon, Zewi, Datona, Fighters Megamix, Virtua Fighter 2, Sega Rally and Astal.
Many 3D games on the Saturn don't age too well in terms of game play IMO.
Overall my rating---7/10
I will go with the PS if I had a choice of only 1 system for few reasons.
1) Supports games that will last you longer and are deeper (Resident evil series, Silent Hill, Syphon Filter, MGS, Ape Escape, Fear effect, Dino Crisis etc)
2) Has an equally solid library of shooters
3) Has a very solid catalog of role playing games.

I just picked up my first Saturn. I had a few friends that had the system when it was new, but the $400 was way too rich for my 14 year old self. I missed this generation of gaming for the most part as I was still holding onto my Genesis and SNES games, so the Saturn always had an aura around it. Now that I am back into the older games, I decided that I couldn't pass on a $40.00 working Saturn. I'm pretty impressed with the leap that was made from the Genesis to the Saturn. Games like Astal and Night Warriors would have blown me away if I had played those titles when they were new in '95 or '96. More and more as I fall into the retro gaming, I'm finding more and more hidden gems. Just reading these forums has resulted in the purchase of a lot of Genesis titles I never thought of owning. The Saturn feels like an unexplored frontier to me, and I am ok with that.

This game owns! Panzer Dragoon Saga was the best Sega gaming experience for me, EVER!. I have the official soundtrack on my ipod touch and listening to "Sona Mi Areru Ec Sancitu" litteraly brings tears to by eyes. Sega can never again replicate perfection like this.

I remember when Sega Saturn magazine gave the whole of Panzer Dragoon Saga disc 1 away on a cover disc. I enjoyed that day. Yeah I bought the game too, loved it.
Tomb Raider 1 was great, was I the only one who found it creepy?
Also the game was made about 5 miles away from me :D
