Most of the time they're ugly as shit though I can't recall of the Sega Saturn actually having anything like that.
For the PS1 I actually go for the GH copies - usually they are bug fixed versions of the games, or in the case of the Lost World, extra content. The only other time I will opt for it is if there is extra content like Fable and Midnight Club 3 on the OG Xbox.. Nope, the Saturn didn't have a series like this.
I would gladly buy tons of them than having to get virtual copies that will fade as soon as my console or the support for it is dead.
Satakore titles were effectively greatest hits, though I suspect there was a bit of shamming as to the titles' actual sales and it was equally a means to dispose excess printings.
The green GH label on Playstation made the packages look awful like the Genesis boxes with that red border.
I can't stand those greatest hits ps1 packaging...looks ugly as shit. Like someone said "it's like slimmer jizzed all over it."
I will never buy a ps1 game with that shitty green crap on the side, no matter how badly I want that game.
I saw Chrono Cross and Legend of Dargoon greatest hits copies at a local store, but I didn't touch them.
Black label all the way.
Ps2 greatest hits pack is better, but I still don't like how out of place it looks on my shelf.
Japanese Saturn greatest hits packaging is good.
I can't stand them.
There are no "red borders" in the Genesis versions known as "Mega Hit" (which are cardboard and have a yellow border) or "Sega Classic" (which are plastic clamshells with a small imprint of the previous cover over a blue background, instead of the grid design).
I never said anything about the Genesis games' being greatest hits. This is all I'm talking about:

I see.
I prefer the red striped boxes myself. If I think Sega Genesis, I think red stripped boxes. Not that there's anything wrong with the black grid boxes (although they're definitely not as beautiful as the white/silver grids for the SMS).
"striped" or "stripped"? There's a huge difference in that one "p".
Fixed that for you. If you're not joking, you must be the only person who likes SMS artwork, or the white grid.Quote:
(although they're definitely not as bland as the white/silver grids for the SMS).
I don't like any "greatest hits" type releases on my shelf as they tend to clash with the rest of my collection, but I especially loathe the PS1 Greatest Hits line. That green stripe is ugly as hell. I'm with curryman.
Why would you need a modchip to play the black label PS1 games?
I don't even know why they do this other than telling new gamers or customers that this game sold over a million times, meaning it must be good.
I think the snes had the nicest one.

I'm not too big a fan of Greatest Hits-type packaging, so I try to avoid them whenever possible, but since I already owned a lot of Platinum and GH games before I got serious about collecting, I don't mind them all that much as I have to live with them anyway. And when importing games you don't always have a choice. If I really want a certain game and have to choose between either a GH version or the regular version at five times the price, there's a good chance I'll still go with the GH version. And at least the US Greatest Hits packaging for Playstation games isn't as fuck ugly at the bland gray European Platinum packaging.
