The top 5 Worst SNES and Genesis games.
This topic takes a look at the bottom of the barrel in the library of the 2 Horse 4th Gen consoles SNES and SEGA Genesis.
Now we've often given these two classic lovers lots of praise and have focused on their mostly A and B+ list titles. Today I'd like to mention the worst of these 2 consoles. Fairly infamous but rarely discussed.
First the SNES.
There were a total of 5 crapfests for the legendary 16-bit classic. All of them were "get-rich-quick" schemes. These pieces of horseshit redefined "in it for the money.
5. Tecmo Super Bowl. Publisher: Tecmo. Released: May 1993. How did it go so wrong? How did one of the most underrated well done Japanese developed NFL titles turn out to be such a half-assed mess on Super NES? They had more power to work with, yet it looks like they just grabbed the NES version and slapped Super on it. The whole game fills sup-par and linear. Like little care was put into it. An absolute waste of time.
4. Revolution X. Publisher: Midway. Released: October 1994. The SNES port of the Arcade music shooter fell unbelievably short. Slow, dull, broken and fraught with terrible hit detection, Revolution X marked the end of the Arcade SNES conversions, why Mortal Kombat 3 did make it to the SNES, it was virtually overlooked.
3. Rise of The Robots. Publisher: Acclaim. Released: November 8,1994. Who can forget Rise of The Robots? I certainly did! Back in 1994, it was the most hyped game of the year. For some reason even Donkey Kong Country and Sonic & Knuckles' CES performances and raves were overshadowed by all the marketing and hype of this golden nugget of shit. Magazine coverage, talks of a cartoon series, talks of a movie, a release on ALL platforms and worse of all, NextGen/Edge and several other magazines gave it a perfect score before it came out! How and Why? The game is a pathetic,dull,half-assed pile of shit! Like Street Fighter for retards. Thankfully, sales quickly slowed down shortly after its strong launch after many gamers realized they'd been ripped off and I thankfully had the common sense to rent it at Hollywood video before returning it the following day.
2. Bebe's Kids. Publisher: Ocean/Motown Games. Released: April 1993. I love Bebe's Kids. As an African American male, Bebe's Kids remains a cultural part of my childhood as it was the first Animated feature that infused black culture. I was pretty psyched to be looking forward to the Super NES game when it was first announced at Fall CES 1992 and thought it would be a nice little platformer beat 'em up. I was wrong.
I rented this little bundle of misery in June of '93. Dear God it was awful. Sluggish, broken, shoddy and some the most cryptic controls ever to grace a game. How did it go so wrong? Apparently, Motown Games did a poor, rushed job on this game, if it had a little more time in development, it probably would turned out to be a semi-decent rentable effort, but no. Motown Games didn't put any.
#1. RapJam: Volume One(Thank God there's no Volume 2). Publisher: Motown Games. Released: October 25,1994.
This game is an enigma. A story on how everything can go completely and horribly wrong in making a game. RapJam was a game which such wasted potential and in idea that sounded so good on paper: Make an NBA Jam clone with Hip-Hop celebrities. But it failed so miserably. This game coulda been good so what the hell happened? Apparently, once again, Motown Games rushed the game and obviously put NO effort into it. They just wanted to get rich quickly and didn't care about the game's overall quality.
So what's so bad about this game? It only functions. That's it. The game works,it turns on, you can turn it off(which is what I suggest everyone should do). The menu works, the select screen works. It's when you FINALLY play the game after Choosing Will Smith and Queen Latifah against Coolio and Onyx that you realize its broken and unplayable. The collision detection is wonky, the controls are terrible, the passing, layoffs, traveling, rebounds and pretty much all Basketball rules don't function properly, there's no music, the graphics are ugly and spastic and the game is only fun for 5 minutes. Thankfully this was THE last game ever developed by Motown Games before they FINALLY disappeared in 1995.

Genesis:
5. Ballz. Developer: STI. Released: December 1994. This game is weird. It's a bizarre Virtua Fighter hybrid that I guess was inspired by early VF Model 1 demos. The whole execution feels like its complete joke. Like SEGA of America is trolling people. The game is playable if not mediocre at best. But the reason why its so bad is because it doesn't make any sense. There's a mixture of weird sound effects and lots of "What The Hell am I playing" moments. Ballz I guess is a game so bad its good. Playing this game on Sega Channel was well.....interesting.
4. Last Battle. Developer: Sega of America, TOEI & Sega of Japan(MD Version.) Released: September 1,1989. Believe it or not, this was a Genesis launch title, yet despite the challenging and solid "Hokoto No Ken" effort on Mega Drive back in early '89, SOA somehow managed to screw it up with probably the WORST conversion in gaming history. I understand that the violence had to be omitted, but Sega of America really DROPPED the ball on this one. First of all, WHY did they botch up the translation? Who the hell is "Aratak"? I know Kenshiro, but I don't know Aratak. Second, this version controls horribly. Bad hit detection, slowdown, confusing level design and cheap A.I. really make the Genesis version unplayable. That's bad enough along with the difficult boss battles but to add insult to injury, SOA completely removed the password system. Why would they DO that? Come on SEGA, your already aware on how crappy Hokoto No Ken turned out on Famicom, the Mega Drive got its first decent Fist of The North Star game, yet you couldn't EVEN keep the source material.
I hate games were you only get one life, I understand that Hokoto No Ken for MD had the same issue, but that game had a password system. In Last Battle, if you die once: THE GAME IS OVER. No continues, no passwords NOTHING. Why? Bottom line, Last Battle and Hokoto No Ken are completely TWO different games. It didn't have to be that way.
3. Barney's Hide N' Seek. Developer: Sega Toys/SEGA Kids. Released: October 26,1993.
This game is infamous. Why? Not because its terrible and unplayable, but because ITS TOO DAMN easy and too sickeningly cute. It's an overdose of sugar. Its understandable since it was developed for young kids, but the gameplay is so mindless and inane that you'll probably torture yourself if you'd dare replay it.
2. Shaq Fu. Developer: EA/Delphine Software. Released: May 31,1994. Now I know that there's a SNES version, but the reason why I'm including it is because that port is useless.(It lacks a VS Mode which rendered the cart worthless.) so I'm sticking with the Genesis version. Who thought it would be a good idea to give Shaquille O' Neal a fighting game? Now before we continue, Somebody actually THOUGHT it would be a good idea to give the 1993 NBA Rookie of The Year/godawful rapper his own fighting game. let that sink in for a moment.
Trouble is, it was a terrible idea, doomed from the start. Even in '94, at 11 years of age I knew the game sucked. I avoided it like the plague. The commericials were incredibly stupid and THAT was enough to turn me off of even renting it.

So what is Shaq Fu? how does it play? I think everyone knows the answer to that.
#1. Batman Forever. Developer: Acclaim. Released: June 28,1995
BF is well, a fighting/platformer that looks good and sounds good. But it plays like shit. Controls like shit and feels like shit. This is without a doubt the WORSE Genesis game in existence. Never mind Acclaim recycling the Genesis "Mortal Kombat" engine. This game fails on every conceivable level. Marred by crappy controls, cryptic special moves and confusing button combos, Batman Forever REDEFINES movie licenses. Even if you were to cheat and beat the game, it still sucks ass.

So what your some your opinions of this list? Do you have 5 games on both systems you consider garbage?
