Do you root for rising or falling Genesis/Mega Drive prices?

As nice as low prices are for buying games, pricing too low ends up devaluing the item in question. Genesis systems go for pennies because nobody wants them. Everyone wants a SNES, so they cost more. That's my biggest problem with the used games market, the Genesis doesn't get any respect. Genesis stuff is more likely to end up in the trash than SNES stuff because it's not worth as much and there's not enough people buying. I would actually prefer slightly higher prices, because then people would value Genesis stuff more.

I'd hate to see villahed post in here, he's got a really wacky perspective on the Genesis market. :?

Never gonna part with my collection, and there are too many games I don't own yet. Lower prices all the way!

Lower prices always. Why anyone would want higher is strange to me. Collecting Game & Watches is annoying because even though many of them sold 1 million each worldwide, they still usually go for $30-$40 the cheapest on eBay. I also buy loose PC Engine HuCards sometimes, because they are way cheaper than the complete game.

Here SNESes are really worthless. They cost just 1/4th of what a Genesis usually sells for($60). I must say though, the Genesis has finally got some respect after years of being ignored.

I got my Genesis at a retro game store for $35, so I think SNES and Genesis are about equal. SNES systems don't sell for $15, are you crazy? Especially not on eBay.

Well the poster is from Mexico, so I don't find it hard to believe the value ratios are different there.

Yes, Mexico can be a bit strange compare to the US and Canada.

The best gauge for market value can be found online, like with eBay, which gets tons of traffic. In that regard, SNES sells way better than Genesis.

I vote for all of the above.

Resale stores around here sell most Genesis carts far lower than most SNES ones. It pretty simple really. On a busy Saturday, there will always be people sifting through the SNES stuff. I am usually alone in the Genesis section. I love both systems, but the Genny does not get the respect it deserves.
Oh well, more for me then.....

Lower prices of course as I'm still in the collecting market, I wish none of the console games would rise like they have the past few years.

My Play N Trade is usually a goldmine for one or two solid SNES and Genesis titles a week.

I plan not to sell my collection and I want prices to rise so more broke nerds whine and complain!

Up, up and away since I've got a complete JP set and a nearly complete US set.

Only 400 short of a complete collection here... So, I guess lower would problably help the 'ol pocketbook.

That said, I do quite enjoy finding the games I already own going for more and more online. Sometimes I make a Saturday night out of it, just looking for them and smiling to myself.

This is why I voted for prices to stay the same. I think prices are already low. If they go too low, people will bin their Sega stuff because they figure it's not worth the trouble to sell them.

I'm not a collector but I tend to keep everything that I buy. I only buy games that I want to play. Most of the games that I own that have become valuable are still ones that I will play again at some point. Unless it ever comes down to Sega or food, I'll probably never sell any of them. And it will still depend upon how hungry I really am. :mrgreen:

Besides, there's always somebody out there trying to get rid of their "tapes for Sega" that will sell cheap so I'm not worried.
