Planning on getting an Nintendo 64 for my baby sister for Christmas. Need some help.

I've been talking to my 18 year old sister(the little 1 year old that poured water into my X' Eye) and she has been asking me if I could get her a Nintendo 64 for Christmas since ever since she started class at UNT, she had been trying to obtain a N64 and had figured that her roommate would have one, but didn't. So I've decided to try to get her one from like Ebay or so. The same place I brought my Japanese Saturn which won't arrive until before Christmas.

I'm trying to get her own with all the accessories. With at least 2 Controllers, Expansion Pack, Jump Pack,Memory Card.

She also has been trying to obtain Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, Goldeneye, and Mario Party 1-2.

Any suggestions for some of the other games she should get?

WWF No Mercy is a college staple, I had hours of fun with it.Scrap goldeneye and get perfect dark instead.

Just kidding, I'll second kokujin's recomendation, I also think Sin & Punishment is a mandatory N64 game.

In that vein, Ridge Racer 64 isn't bad either, and I noticed he already had Mario Kart 64 in the OP. The OP should mention if she prefers any particular genre... for example, I prefer racing games, then first or third person shooters; I do not like RPGs very much, although I will play the good ones now and then.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask yet. Those are two I'd recommend. Also Mario Tennis and the 3 Mario Party games are fun for when you have friends over. Starfox 64 is another great one I'd recommend.

Has she shown an interest in any specific genres previously? (Does she have some history of gaming from which recommendation can be drawn from?)


For example: If she likes RPGs, there are the Zelda games (as action RPGs) There's "Paper Mario," and "Ogre Battle 64" as well (though, if I recall, the N64 versions of those games are kind of pricey).

Back in the day like in 2000, one of my female cousins owned Goldeneye & my sister only 6 at the time was mesmorized by it.

My baby sister is a newbie. Therefore she perfers 2 types: Action games that are easy to get into & are a great way to kill a few hours. And co-op games that she can play with friends and family.

Get her an Everdrive 64. seriously.

those kind of games seem to be more common on the Sega Saturn than on the N64. perhaps she should consider getting a Saturn?

Uh... the N64 is LOUSY with multi-player/co-op games... far more than any other non-Nintendo platform.

For an overview, look at this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_64_games

and look at the number of players column. There's lots of party games in the list... three Mario Party games just to start. Multi-player party games has always been Nintendo's thing.

I was talking about action games that are easy to get in to. Saturn has tons of arcade-style games available for it.

Getting her Mario Party would just be murder for the controllers.
Get her maybe something like Super Smash Bros for the Multiplayer/ Co-op experience.

Did she ever like any 3D platformers whatsoever? Maybe something like DK64, Banjo Kazooie, Conkers Bad Fur Day(if you find it cheap enough) or maybe even Jet Force Gemini.

If you're planning on getting Goldeneye, if she's not in it exclusively for nostalgia (liking the levels of that particular game and such), then maybe you should try Perfect Dark instead?
I mean it's basically Goldeneye 2, they polished the engine some and added more stuff.

Mischief Makers, Kirby 64: the Crystal Shards and Yoshi's Story are some pretty good 2D platformers for the systems and if you haven't considered them yet, now's the time :)
