Early arrival of Saturn or not, it was still something that was released far too late. 32X is something that should have been launched around Sega CD's time.

What did you expect them to do? Delay the release of the Saturn for another year needlessly, just to give time to strengthen the crappy 32X so it would look a little better, before its inevitable failure? So years later you could say it wasn't quite so crappy?

I seriously doubt the 32x library would be that much larger if Saturn had been released at the original planned launch of September 2.

I don't like to pick on anybody else's lists 'cause it often leads to an endless debate (commonly filled with personal attacks); at least I took my time to describe why I listed those games. And I'm pretty sure other people think different of us both, so, no big deal.
I'm just too lazy to put together a list of SNES games, but it would probably be even longer than the Genesis one.

The main use for that game is as a donor cartridge for Star Fox 2 reproductions.

Released the Saturn when they said they would AND kept producing titles for the 32X. There's no reason Sega couldn't have supported both. Most developers make their games for anywhere between two and ten different platforms. Sega could have EASILY supported both, but the bean counters felt the 32X "stole" marketshare from the Saturn.

Seriously, dude, look at a typical release now... a game will be on the PS3, the Xbox 360, the Wii, the PC, the PS Vita, the 3DS, the iPhone, Windows Phone, and Android. And you think Sega couldn't handle both the 32X and Saturn at the same time?!?! :daze:

I don't see how any of you can deny that Virtua Racing is better than Star Fox or Stunt Race FX; Virtua Racing clearly uses more polygons and is faster, too. This thread is about "best graphics" so the rest of the (subjective) arguments are irrelevant here.

Oh! I hadn't considered that. You're right, Star Fox does have the best looking space muppets! And I have to admit those cars in Stunt Trax sure are cute. Does the FX chip give the SNES some sort of muppet-mode? Or maybe a floating-marionette calculator? :mrgreen:

Mode 7 comes pre-loaded for cuteness. That's why the Sega CD and Saturn's Mode 7s suck so much.

Again I was talking about them being more fun games obviously virtua racing has better graphics.

The 32X did not sell 500K in a month. Sega had trouble getting units to retail, with the first shipment only being 200k. It sold 500k by December and the final 100k (Sega had planned to ship 600K by the end of the year) wasn't shipped until January of the following year.

The system launched with 4 games. Doom was rushed and had missing levels and weapons. Cosmic Carnage was garbage. Star Wars Arcade was pretty close to the arcade game, but the sound was pretty bad. Knuckles Chaotix used the Genesis hardware, with the characters being drawn by the 32X. Most of the games that arrived later, really didn't look like they were miles better than Genesis titles. NBA Jam TE, Golf Magazine Presents 36 Great Holes, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventures, Mortal Kombat II, NFL Quarterback Club, WWF Raw, Brutal Unleashed, RBI Baseball 95, Toughman Contest and Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Starship Bridge Simulator, looked pretty much like your basic Genesis games.

The early arrival of the Saturn in North America had very little to do with 3rd party support moving away from the 32X. The Saturn was launched in Japan on November of 1994. The Playstation was also launched in Japan in 1994. The 3rd party publishers were already gearing up for those consoles in 1994 and they offered less risk since they were CD based.

The 32X is a cool item for collectors, but it wasn't something that I had bought, until it was in the bargain bin. There was already too much hype building up for the Playstation and Saturn when the 32X arrived.
