I'm happy we're moving forward, but isn't one of the rules that the user must have at least one post to their name prior to announcing their beaten game?
^Well, we came down on someone on p. 1, but more than anything that was because it was a one-line post from a new poster claiming to have beaten a popular game (Hyperstone Heist) with no picture, no additional commentary, and the poster hasn't posted since. That's night and day vs. Hades's post, IMHO.
The "one post" thing was aimed at e.g. when someone's friend wanted to participate but wasn't going to register for the site, and/or to discourage drive-by posters who claim they beat a game like Hyperstone Heist and then disappear. It probably would've been better to write something like "We reserve the right to disallow victories (especially popular games, and especially without a picture) from posters with fewer than 10 posts".
Which makes it a judgment call, but I think it has to be one, so with everyone's permission I'll make an edit accordingly to clarify that.
(Otherwise we're in the position of having to technically disallow a detailed and well-documented victory, but allowing a half-assed one if that person had just posted "sneeble bleeble bleep" somewhere first -- or even if they edit their first post, remove the victory announcement, and add it to a second one! -- and that hardly seems just to me.)
just beat landstalker. this was my first time playing landstalker and man was that awesome! reminded me alot of beyond oasis but with more puzzles.

Populous update : I've passed worlds 269, 273, 278, 283, 290, 295, 301, 306, 311, 316, 322, 329, 335 and 339. Next one is #343.
World 301 consisted mainly in patience, using earthquakes on my own territory as rising or lowering the ground was not allowed. Worlds where He has only swamps are rather a nuisance, because It's impossible to have a viable leader because He always sends swamps on him when I try to make one, and without a leader, things can be difficult to get my people to doing anything. :)
"only" 151 worlds to go, yay!

Guess the Toughman Contest wasn't as tough as it thought.
Not a bad little "boxing" game, really. The while the graphics aren't the best with the backgrounds, the character graphics, gameplay and sound are pretty good. A healthy roster to make your way through gives the game some longevity, but no real ending makes beating them all feel a bit hollow. Oh, and Butterbean (who comes up out of the crowd to fight you) was one of the easiest opponents in the game. Never played it before, and all in all, it's not a bad game.

In addition to my previous complaints about this game, I also discovered that it contains a nasty game-freezing bug that occurs any time men get doubled-up on a base. I was bit by this bug seven times(!) during my playthrough. I can't sufficiently express the aggravation of having the game freeze on you when you're halfway through the third game of a series that you're leading 2-0. The bug essentially breaks the game because any time you hit a pop-fly you can't risk sending your base runners back to tag-up. You just have to eat the triple-play because the alternative is your game freezing.
*EDIT: 8-3-2014. I now believe this bug is caused by the game's incompatibility with the 6-button controller. Depressing the Mode button at startup seems to prevent the game from freezing in the aforementioned situation.
In case anyone in the future comes looking for information about this game, here are some tips.
Pre-game
Study your team. Know who your power hitters and base stealers are, so that you can develop appropriate strategies. It doesn't hurt to be familiar with your opponents line-up either.
Look at your bench players and see if any of them have better skill sets than your starters. Substitute as appropriate.
Reorganize your batting order. The default batting orders in the game are not ideal. At the top of the lineup, put players with higher chances to hit for extra bases and steal them, then put power hitters who lack speed in the middle of the lineup to drive those players in. Put your weaker hitters at the bottom of the lineup. Basically, just standard baseball practice.
Pitching/Fielding
Just throw the ball straight over the plate. Don't move around on the mound, and don't mess with fastballs, breaking balls, or change-ups. None of that makes any difference in the types of hits that the CPU gets. The CPU hitting algorithms are outside of your influence. You may be able to strike out the odd batter or two by throwing breaking balls and bringing the heat, but you'll pay the price in fatigue. And fatigue is something you want to avoid because that does seem to factor into the CPU's hitting algorithm. As your pitcher tires, he'll give up better hits to the CPU.
Bring in a reliever when your pitcher's stamina falls below 50%. If you don't get fancy, though, most starting pitchers will make it through the 7th inning.
If one of your opponent's speed guys gets a lead-off hit, pitch out to the next batter and let the runner attempt to steal second. Depending on your catcher, you should be able to throw out all but the fastest runners who try to steal second. If you don't manage to throw him out at second, pitch out again, and he'll probably try to steal third, where you should have no trouble throwing him out.
Hitting/Running
Hitting, like pitching, is largely random, but there is an element of timing and position. You've really just got to get a feel for it. However, if you're looking to hit home runs, then crowd the plate somewhat, and swing at fastballs early.
It's not absolutely necessary, but it helps to maintain strike-zone discipline and work the count. At least try not to swing at balls off the plate. You many make contact with those, but you won't be rewarded with quality hits. Remember, the more pitches he throws, the more fatigued the pitcher becomes, and the better your opportunities later.
As his stamina falls, the pitcher's fastball speed will drop as well. Move forward in the batter's box when this occurs.
Move back in the batter's box if the CPU is throwing a lot of fastballs.
Take lead-offs. This is especially important if the runner is slow.
Defense
Get good at playing defense. The reason you're getting mercy-ruled in this game is because you aren't playing good defense. Defensive play in this game is as important as offensive play, if not more so.
Change your infield depth in response to the hitter. "Back", for stronger hitters. "Normal" for average hitters. "Forward", for contact hitters.
Dive for ground balls. Your 2nd baseman and shortstop should be diving all over the place. Check out Part 1 of the video below at the ~3:00 mark for an example of excellent diving defensive play from the shortstop.

Finally, here are videos of the final game of the World Series. In the first inning, witness Dave Henderson crush a homer into the Sonic sign. Longest home run I've ever seen in the game! Near the end of the 6th inning, I barely escape the aforementioned bug.

(apologies for the blurriness of some of the text!)
This conversion has a few hiccups, but I must say that I LOVE the ability to play with two sticks (to be fair, I can't imagine anyone completing the game with the default control method!). Smooth as silk!
That said, I did have a few issues with it:
1) Secret Rooms: Sooo, are they gone or what? They're not where they're supposed to be, in any case (generally-speaking, the lower right corner of the map). I'm figuring Probe must have cut them to save on memory or something.
2) No music during the credit sequence. Not a biggie, but very, very weird.
3) This is one of the few games I've played where your lives/continues are pre-assigned at the start of each stage, and thus, how well you did on the previous stage has absolutely no bearing (Double Dragon Neon does this with lives as well). You begin Stage 1 with 7 lives and one credit, and then Stages 2 and 3 with 7 lives and 4 credits each. So if you beat Stage 1 on a single life, or on your last life, it has absolutely ZERO bearing on how you start out on Stage 2. Again, just plain weirdness from Probe; it kills your motivation to care about how well you do on the first two Stages since there is no reward for beat either of these with a single life or anything.
4) Not an issue with the conversion, but with the game in general: Those final 2 rooms before the M.C. just don't know when to quit. How many guys do you kill in Room #2? 20,000? 30,000? It just drags and drags....
So that might sound like a lot of complaining, but I do love Smash T.V. for the most part (enough so that I'd like to have an arcade cab in my living room someday). The Genesis version is a fair recreation, just not as great as it could've been with a little more memory and effort.
Thanks, man! I really appreciate it.
You're right, it was agony while it was ongoing, but now that it's over, it feels good to have stuck with it and prevailed. However, that's the last time I blindly pick a game I'm not familiar with because this was like stepping into a bear trap.
And, BTW, I've been very impressed with your string of victories as well, and I really enjoy reading your commentary on those games.
And just to followup on that…
I'd like to offer encouragement to every participant in this endeavor. I've been actively following this thread, and I've read pretty much every word that's been written. I've been impressed by every account of victory, and for every one I read, I give a fist-pump. So keep up the good work, everyone! It will be great if we can get this done on our first attempt.
:)
Not sure if it matters anymore, but I just finished it on hardest:

Nice one! :) I really thought Populous would be a huge problem, so it's great to see you making such rapid progress.
Enthusiastically seconded. That doubling-up bug sounds horrendous -- it makes my quibbles with Tony LaRussa seem like nothing by comparison.
Seconded on that too! We're creeping up on the 25% beaten mark, which we'll reach with game #173 (out of 691 -- that is, not counting the 20 games we've disallowed in advance). So we're in great shape so far, though obviously it'll get harder as the proportion of brutal games remaining gets higher. Still, we've gotten some pretty rough ones out of the way early on, including the one you just beat.
And in addition to the accomplishment itself, this thread is -- just as we'd hoped -- turning into a nice repository of information about games that don't always get much (or any) attention.
As for my own efforts, I'm stalled out on Andre Agassi and Rampart at the moment, but I put 6-7 hours into Super Hydlide and am now well into the game. Since I nearly beat it last year, many of the game's puzzles and cryptic elements are no obstacle this time around, but there's still a lot of grinding needed, if only to raise my character's carried weight limit.
Things might become harder in the future (worlds 375 onwards). For the time being, He is not that difficult to beat, but when I see the list of worlds types, I guess it won't be as easy.
Less people to start with, less powers... World 475 seems horrible, but for now I'm not at it, I'd better concentrate on what's next. :)
If you thought Populous with its 500 worlds would be a problem, be glad that the sequel never was brought stateside to the Genesis; 1000 Levels take quite a while, even if you can skip 4 or 5 at once... ;) (on the other hand it's a shame, Populous II is a great game, maybe my favorite in this particular genre even after all those years...)
