I didn't really mean to score that last TD. I just gave the ball to Dexter Carter to end the game but no one was able to tackle me.

Went over to my friend today. We planned to play Willy Beamish on the Mega-CD, which we later did, but first we wanted to play an action game. I looked at his shelf and saw Ghouls ‘N Ghosts, which caught my attention. We didn't plan to beat it, but as we played on (switching the pad every other life, 1 player game) we eventually did. Yes, we even played it through twice to get to Loki, beat him and see the ending. Should this count even if my friend isn't registered here? To be honest, I beat most of the checkpoints and bosses (incl. Loki), one exception was the giganormous larva on the second run.
^I have no problem with counting it, especially if you beat the majority of the bosses. There were a couple similar cases in the NintendoAge NES beat-'em-all last year, and heck, I'd like to at least have the option of beating a game co-op with my fiancée. (In fact we jointly beat a game in the SNES drive at NA, which was counted.)
Well, I've beaten "Boxing Legends of the Ring"... I think.
I had a little problem with the game: The passwords it gave me never worked! I had started out on the easiest difficulty and switched off the console after a few fights, but when I wanted to continue and entered the Password, the game just said "Try Again" and didn't let me. I made sure everything was entered correctly (I had photographed the screen, and even then I tried every combination of 0, O and Q just in case), and even tried one of the earlier passwords the game gave me, all to no avail.
I didn't mind too much, since the easiest setting struck me as... well, a bit too easy, so I started over with the difficulty set to three (out of five). The game didn't really get all that harder though - it's not very difficult - but that's beside the point. Anyway, I just left the console on after I stopped playing and continued right where I left off. In the end, I defeated all opponents without losing a single fight, with all but the last two fights Won by either by Knockout or TKO, and the last two (including the final match against Graziano) won by unanimous split decision. So I got the ending screen and everything, but there's just one detail that bothers me...

As you may have noticed, I've played the game flashed to a Mega Everdrive on my Nomad. Now, when I enter any of the two passwords pictured above, I only get an error message. I can't access the proclaimed "Battle of the Legends". I've completed the "Career Mode" of the game though.
So I don't know, does that count? Also, can anyone confirm whether these passwords work on their version of the game (be it emulated or original)? I'd really like to know.
Could it be a case of letters are too similar? For example, in Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego, the passwords can contain H and N, but on my TV the letters appear very similar. I sometimes wonder if I had written down the wrong letter at some point and not known it.Quote:

I've run into one other game that didn't accept passwords it gave out, Lord of the Rings Vol. 1 -- which, oddly enough, I just alluded to in my previous post about the SNES beat-'em-all drive at NA. Once you reach the game's final area, it'll keep handing out passwords, but none of them will work. I'm really glad we did that whole thing in one sitting.
Hold on, I was able to get the first password to work by entering it as:
BOPUUQFBBBKKCEI5
However, either I'm going nuts or there's something very strange happening with the password input screen. I cycled through some other combinations, including starting out with BOPVU / B0PVU and things like that, and occasionally one would work -- but sometimes it seemed as if it would reject a password, only to accept it if I cycled around and tried the same password again?! I definitely know that one of the passwords with V instead of the first U worked, and I could swear it was a repeat of a combination I'd just tried.
I almost wonder if there's a bug going on with the repeated-letters thing or something. Let me see if I can sort out that second password...
EDIT: No luck with the second password. I tried
AOPUUSFBBBKKCEI4
And systematically tried swapping out the O for a zero, the S for a five, and the U's for V's. 16 different combinations, but no luck. No idea what's going on.
I think we can discount some kind of PAL/NTSC conflict; I was using a dump of the US version of the game flashed to cartridge, and I used an unmodded Nomad, so this was strictly NTSC-on-NTSC-action.Quote:

/edit: That did the trick! The final password gives you access to the "Battle of the Legends!" If you select that option, a password screen comes up. After a few tries I've apparently entered trhe right pw, and it kicked me to a name entry screen! I'll see what happens next...

Alright, there we go: That final password unlocked the "Battle of the Legends", a best of 8 knockout tournament against the opponents fashioned after real-life boxers. In the finals I faced Ray LaMotta and once more beat him in an unaminous decision (though judging by the numbers of shots he threw at me, I now understand his nickname "Raging Bull")..

If you target Kings, chances are you won't be able to land them, and if you don't land them, you won't level up.
• Finally, a word about setting the hook. It works like this (I think). When you're getting a bite, your rod tip will bob up and down, and every so often it will take a big dip. There is a pattern to this action; it's usually 2 bobs and a dip, like so: Bob, Bob, Dip… Bob, Bob, Dip… Bob, Bob, Dip. You want to pull up on your rod right as the rod dips. Let the pattern run for a few seconds and try to mimic the action… Bob, Bob, Dip… Bob, Bob, Dip… , and then, Bob, Bob, *SET*. It takes a lot of practice, or luck, to get the timing just right. Also, try to press the pad firmly and hold it for brief moment, don't tap it quickly and release.
I don't really have my eye on anything specific. However, if you are planning to do a mid-year reset, I would grab a couple of games that I feel I could knock off quickly, and try to make up for my lack of activity in April and May. But it's all sixes really. I'm not looking to step on anyone's toes.Quote:

also in the NES version the cpu gets better as the season goes on with each consecutive win(pass coverage especially)...I usually end up losing a couple games during the season if I don't take a top notch team.

I reached 30 games of an NBA ACTION '95 season, with a record of 29-1. I also encountered twice the Minnesota Timberwolves, so they're now off the list. With my real-life schedule returning to normal after some really busy weeks, i should be able to update my progress faster from now on.
As a side note, i noticed that Dynamite Headdy is highlighted in red: may i claim it? i have the european version, which is the same as the US: it's the japanese one that it's noticeably easier. http://dhvstb.webs.com/regionalvariations.htm . I should be able to finish it before the next NBA update.

i'm not using a cart and both games have glitched out on me when displaying the tournament bracket after completing a couple games
i'll give NBA Live '96 a try and if that glitches out on me i'll have to move onto some non EA games

Meanwhile I'm about 75% of the way through ATP Tour Championship Tennis, so I'm hoping to wrap that up within a few days.
Ugggggh, ATP Tour Championship Tennis won't give you an ending until you've played for three seasons. I thought I might still qualify for the best ending if I just sat the second and third seasons out, since I went undefeated in my first season (1995), played every tournament, won the year-end championships, and ended the year #1 in the world. And then I played (and won) the first tournament of 1996, allowing me to max out my character's stats.
But I just got the second-best ending ("You've shown the skills that are necessary to be a champion. Keep practicing until you are the best!"), and it looks like the season that counts is your final one, or something along those lines. So repetitive...but I'll keep at it.
Meanwhile, we're not going to make the 50% mark by midyear, and things have tailed off a lot -- we're not remotely on pace to finish. I'm thinking about nuking all the claims older than June 1st (which, of course, could be individually reinstated on request) in hopes of jumpstarting everything. Any thoughts?

This Air Diver made more of a belly flop than anything.
A "meh" title through and through. The graphics are OK, and a couple of the songs are catchy, but it gets dull pretty fast sitting there waiting for enemies to get done doing their pre-scripted loops and such so you can fight them. The "wiggling" the bosses do gets old pretty quick as well, considering they really offer no challenge otherwise. It's not that it sucks, or offers nothing different, it simply doesn't really leave much of an impression when it's over, and doesn't instill a "gotta play it again" feeling. It's no turd, but it's no AfterBurner II or G-LOC, that's for sure.

Not a bad little pool game. Some fun trick shots (the hit detection's suspect at times), a tournament mode that doesn't drag on, and that gives you chances to make up for losing. The physics aren't quite right, but they're manageable. All in all, not a bad game. Could use more options and game modes though.

Since I beat DDIII and DDV this year, I figured I might as well beat the first game. It's also my first repeat victory -- up until now, I've been confining myself to Genesis games I've never beaten before.
I played on the toughest settings, 2 Lives/2 Credits, and was able to 1CC it. I could probably 1LC with a little practice, but in the last stage I got nailed by a spear and fell off a ledge. (I earned an extra life at 30k points.)
Terrible port, BTW. I know some people like it, but it's just way too easy to elbow-smash your way through the whole game.
I was going to Elbow Smash my way through that soon if someone else didn't. Heh.
It's a better port than the NES got IMO.
Now that we've reached the halfway point, it's probably fair to reset those claims that have never had any progress updates. There are, however, some folks with claims made prior to June 1st who have posted at least one update of their progress. You probably ought to leave those claims in place, at least until you can determine if they have actually been abandoned. Perhaps you could request a current status update of any such claims. For some reason I was expecting this game to be a hassle, but it's a fun little technical platformer with excellent stage design, lots of secret/hidden areas, and (despite the slightly quirky controls) a very low frustration factor.
@The Coop: Oh, man, I remember my first pass through Onslaught -- totally interminable. Fortunately, my second pass took 90 minutes since I used a cheap-ass tactic to win the game (as I alluded to earlier), but I respect the fact that you're doing it properly.
It isn't often that a game yells at you in its title. I beat it in order to teach it a lesson about politeness.

This is a seriously underrated game. I'm not arguing it's a classic or anything, but I enjoyed it more than some titles that people seem to fondly remember. Look, I've played an awful lot of generic platformers, and this one surprised me by standing out. So many of these games have stiff or bad controls, bland, uninteresting layouts and settings that all seem to be the same, etc. (See: Bubsy II, Greendog, Izzy's Quest). Aahh! Real Monsters (based on a cartoon I liked as a kid but can't remember anything about) has some fairly creative settings, keeps doing different things with level design throughout, manages a multiple-character mechanic rather well, and is rather shockingly long. You keep thinking "this has to be the last stage" and you're not even close. I will say that it got frustrating at times, but ultimately it was reasonably beatable. From a glance at the SNES version, this one is very different and clearly superior.

Not a bad game. The music is OK, the graphics are pretty good, and the levels aren't bad in terms of design. But the Sega CD version's better overall, with more levels, less slow down, and better music.
