Guys, I must pull out of this, I just don't have any time to put into this whole thing. Goldenband, delist me as having claimed Super Monaco GP and Lethal Enforcers II and let someone else have a stab at 'em.
Guys, I must pull out of this, I just don't have any time to put into this whole thing. Goldenband, delist me as having claimed Super Monaco GP and Lethal Enforcers II and let someone else have a stab at 'em.
@tim333: Good luck! As the conqueror of Klax and Flicky, you've shown yourself to be more than capable of taking down some tough, reflex-heavy titles.
Sounds good on both counts. Do post updates when you're able, so we know you're still on the case. :)
OK, will do.
I'd like to claim Alien Storm, which I'll play with my friend once I have received the game and we meet.
I should probably unclaim College Football '97 as well. If anyone wants the copy of the game Goldenband kindly gave me for the sake of this project, I'll ship it and cover its costs. But beware, the battery is dead, so you have to beat the tournament mode in one sitting.
Sorry, Goldenband :(. I'll try to make up for this by beating as many games as possible.
Yours!
That, or replace it. It's actually not too hard to do, though you'd need a solder sucker which I don't have. (Had I known the copy I sent you had a dead battery, it would've been the perfect excuse to finally get one!)
BTW I have a copy of La Russa Baseball '95 with the same problem, and I'm debating whether I want to try to marathon it.
No worries whatsoever, if anything the fault is mine! But I like the sound of your solution. :D
I'm finished! I was almost ready to truckle, but I persevered. I'm so excited, I'm fribbling like mad. And I took way too many pictures. Enjoy way too many pictures!

About this time I was doing a double fist-pump and shouting "FUCK YES!" over and over as loud as I could. If you think I'm joking it's awfully nice of you to give me the benefit of the doubt.
http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...ps47529d64.png
Yep, I kicked his curple up and down the block. Well, actually, it took me 18 tries. If that doesn't sound like a lot, consider this: the game makes you redo the extremely difficult final stage every time you lose to the boss. An abbreviated version of it, but that's not counting the times I ran out of lives and had to do it all over.
http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psbd8acb15.png
56 of them. Good lord.

You... you mean there's an end?

That's almost exactly like my first computer as a kid!

Uhh...
http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...ps09a6bbcc.png
...yeah.
http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/...psc6d87e94.png
I was surprised it gave me enough space to do this.
OK, some of you (particularly those who have also beaten hard games for the project) may think I'm awfully obnoxious for patting myself on the back this hard, but the truth is that I am really not very good at video games at all. I do this through sheer force of will! This and Flicky might be the two hardest games I've ever beaten (Flicky edges this one out for hardest, if you're curious), so I sure hope this endeavor reaches the finish line.
Big thanks to Zebbe for giving me a large chunk of the word definitions and for giving me a push when I had given up (truckled).
EDIT: Out of curiosity, I looked up designer/programmer Martyn Chudley and he's quite easy to find online. I wonder if he'd answer a few questions for a Sega-16 feature. That'd be cool.
^Awesome -- congratulations! And I don't think your self-back-patting is unwarranted. That game sounds tough as hell, and moreover, those kinds of recaps are exactly what make this thread fun & more than just a dry list of accomplishments.
I too really hope we make it to the finish line. There are some games left that I've beaten myself, but a whole bunch that I've hardly ever played, and more than a few tricky platformers that'll take some time to master.
goldenband: I'll see what I can do regarding the battery, but for now I'll focus on Alien Storm :).
tim333: Great job, Tim! I knew you could do it. Actually, I somewhat disagree with you that it's a bloody hard game, BUT it takes A LOT of time plus a huge pile of patience to beat, so if you add that to the main challenge I guess it kinda is as hard as you describe it ;). Plus the final boss is a nasty one, I have to admit. Go ahead and pat yourself on the back as much as you can, you deserve it and contact Martyn Chudley afterwards. I'm curious to see what he had to say why the SNES version was cancelled (lack of Blast Processing? :D) and why there wasn't a sequel.
Just so you all know, I haven't been playing any Genesis in a couple of months. I should have known this would happen, but my TV is upstairs and we have no AC. So it is too hot to hang out upstairs doing anything, especially with the TV on. So when we have a cool day I can get back to it, which the weatherman said the humidity will be dropping in a couple days so hopefully that will be enough.
Zebbe: As I said, I'm not great at video games, so it's quite possible I overstated the challenge somewhat. At any rate, glad to have it done.
I'm dropping my claim on Bubba 'N' Stix for now and switching over to Chester Cheetah: Wild Wild Quest, since I was able to beat the latter on Easy today. What a mess of a game! I'll work on beating Normal in the next few days.
Or I could just do it tonight:
http://www.sega-16.com/forum/attachm...1&d=1373510243
http://www.sega-16.com/forum/attachm...2&d=1373510250
http://www.sega-16.com/forum/attachm...3&d=1373510256
Chester Cheetah: Wild Wild Quest is beaten (on Normal).
I'll probably beat Hard for my own amusement in the next few days, before I start to forget the level layout (not that it's all that tricky) and boss patterns (which can get damn tricky).
EDIT 2013-07-13: And I did so (beat the game on Hard). No difference in the ending.
There's still so many easy (yet long) games I've beaten before on the list. After I tackle Spiderman vs. The Kingpin, I'm going to try to motivate myself to put the time into beating them for you guys if they're still there.
I wish I'd kept up with this thread. It's definitely fun reading the trials and tribulation of people's accomplishments, as well as seeing many games I've never played.
I've been on a Saturn kick for the little game time I've been making. Weeks ago I put some serious nights into Gaiares and was making headway. But it's pretty much one of those games that once you mess up it's often just as well to start over from the beginning - and I seriously started to get sick of playing the first level. Thanks to the shield powerups I've gotten to the 4th boss without dying.
I will tackle that one so if it's ok please put it back to "green" in the claim list. I still plan to do Pat Reily's Basketball too.
One I never would have planned on doing was Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The Movie!
But then last night I dug into a box of loose carts I'd recently acquired and after a brief play of Tiny Toons Adventures (I never knew that was Sonic style game!) I thought I'd give the Power Rangers cart a try just to see how bad it was. Now I'm surprised to say, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is a damn fine game.

At first glance it confirmed my prejudice, as the first area has the player in a non-scrolling static screen fighting the same 3 regenerating purple blob-monsters over and over again. It seems some areas require you to defeat a certain number of enemies before the stage scrolls or shifts to another scene. But then on a later level I thought it was the same convention of defeating a set number of enemies, but my life keeps draining after the time runs out, and then after a few continues, no more enemies regenerate at all - I'm just running back and forth - nothing. I started to think the game had glitched out. So now I'd used 4 out of 6 continues and my life was draining again from no remaining time when I noticed one of the background stones looked a little different than some others. Nicely hidden, and maybe I missed the hint because I skipped that level's into.
Speaking of story: the between level cinemas are very nicely done. I've never watched a whole Power Rangers episode in my life and I'm decidedly not a fan, but this game holds its own as far as story and graphics are concerned.
Another highlight is a later level where you travel to the Forbidden Planet. There are meteors or lava balls raining down and you have to pay attention to the slight shadows to know where to dodge, all the while fighting an unending parade of enemies. That section is a highlight of any Genesis scrolling beat-em-up.
At the end of each level you can choose one of the megazord power rangers mech forms. And these fighting battles change things up a little. The control in both this mode and the regular side scrolling beat-em-up levels is responsive and varied but not too in depth or complicated.
Overall I'll say Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is at least as much fun as the first Streets of Rage - and like that game, the music is very good as well.
Tonight I got the credit roll and ending cinemas, but I wonder if there might be more of an alternate since some of the bosses timed out.
Either way I think we can say Mighty Morphin Power Rangers has been completed.

Glad to have you back!
Both games are re-greened. :)
Awesome -- and I enjoyed your writeup! -- but unfortunately, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie was actually beaten by sjorspion a few months back. The first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is the one that's still available. (Unless I've misunderstood something, and if so please do correct me!)
That'd be great. We're fast approaching the point where the key thing is to beat a lot of games by any means possible, so that we're close enough to the finishing line that it inspires us all to make a year-end push. There are a few I know I can run through in an hour or two, like Granada and Jewel Master.
I played Alien Storm with my friend for the first time. We got to the final stage. :)
The girl seems to be the worst character. Powerful weapon is better than powerful special attack.
My NBA Action '95 marathon continues! 50 regular season matches disputed so far, with a record of 49-1.
New teams that i won't meet again in regular season:
- Phoenix Suns
- Golden state Warriors
- Houston Rockets
Also, i think my skill improved very big. Now i win every match with at least 30 points of difference, sometimes even 40 or 50. Stay tuned for further updates!
Another post in order to go up faster with the post count and get rid of the mod approval rule.
I finished Crusader of Centy...actually, Soleil here in Europe. I checked it, the are no differences in terms of difficulty.
I already started and finished the game this year, before discovering this forum. So i just had to reload my last save and defeat the final boss once again for the ending:

Since everything has been done in 2013, i hope i'm not violating the rules. If so, just tell me and i'll restart from scratch!

It has been a while, but I was busy with reorganizing my collection. Which takes a lot of time, but....
Clayfighter has been beaten....
the game had some charm back in the days, but a questionable hitbox detection en poor AI made it mediocre.
Some part of the game feels recycled, for instance: in the single player mode you have to fight Bonker, Tiny and Taffy twice. The landscape stages looks different, but the stages itself are the same.
Also the N Boss has the same stage as the Blob. No endings, immediately after defeating the N Boss you get the credits. Which has the same music as the Blob/N Boss stage!
So no need to finish it with an other fighter. Oh well, it was fun for about 15 min....
I'm dropping Triple Play '96. I just can't find the motivation to grind through another sports game right now.

I looked at the list and saw Mega turrican in red. So I took the change of completing this Gem! (Sorry AD2102 ;))
Awesome game, awesome music (Thnx Chris hulsbeck), a must have for any megadrive/genesis gamer!.
I have the Mega drive (pal) version, so I played the NTSC version via my everdrive.
First stage completed....boss defeated. All diamonds....all lives....and..black screeen!? :O
Nothing worked, so I had to dig up my mint pal copy. B)
So finally I completed the PAL version in 60 hz (I think the game was a bit to fast, but playing in 50 hz was to sloooowww ;))
Trivia:
- the Super Nintendo Version of Super(mega) Turrican is actually not finished...the 'final boss' is the Alien boss, but -like in the Megadrive version- there where suppose to be more stages after that.
But they pushed the released date, so the programmers had to finish it.
- In the first stage, where you see the lifepods in the background. In the beginning some pods had a mario and a sonic in it. But it didn't make it in the final product.
Awesome! :)
Oh, man, totally understandable -- don't burn yourself out, you've been an MVP in the sports department. You could claim non-sports titles from now to the end of the year and still be ahead of anyone else, ratio-wise. (If my math is right, you're at 13 sports, 6 non-sports beaten.)
Ok, so I've beaten the game on the hard difficulty for the 'Special' ending..
After defeating the annoyingly cheap (e)N(d) Boss, your fighter give all other fighters one final asswhooping kick...bla bla...2 screens of story text....blabla...the end....credits...blabla...
Attachment 7143Attachment 7144Attachment 7145Attachment 7146Attachment 7147
Ok, time for a sport game....hmmm... I liked the James Pond series on the Mega drive, so let's try the Aquatic Games. After all it's starring James Pond...and Friends!
I remember I played this games as a kid, but never got it finished. Ok graphics, funny characters, bit repetitive music. I mean if an event last for 4 minutes, why make a sound loop with only last 2 minutes?
The Aquatic Games consist out of 8 events:
100 Metre Splash
Kipper Watching (use a seal to bounce the beachball away from the sleeping seals)
Hop, Skip and Jump
The Bouncy Castle (Gymnastics)
Feeding Time (Use a walking starfish to feed the fish candy before the fishing rods catch them)
Shell Shooting (Bounce on Shells to make them bounce, then catch them in a basket so you can throw them to the ceiling to burst the balloons)
Tour the Grass (Ride with a Dolphin on a unicycle)
Leap Frog
At the main Menu you have 7 options:
James Pond's Workout=Easy / Tuffer Training= Medium / Piranha! Practice= Hard (for practicing one event)
The Aquatic games (the main game/event)
Double trouble/Triple Trouts/ Fintastic foursome (2/3/4 player modes)
Let the games begin!
Oh wel, I don't need training just start with the aquatic games. *Many failed events later...* Ok, I definitely need some practicing first...
Bouncy castle event....
I remember something with combining the spin with a somersault..but how the F.. do I past this event? *searching for the manual*
".....To show that you're capable of real variety, you must do each of the following moves six times before the time runs out:"
Double twist
Double Forward/backward somersault
Twist& forward/backward somersault
Forward&backward somersault."
piece of cake! *many hours later* Turn G..D...twist..aaaargh!:bang:
I used my arcade stick to play the event called: Tour the grass. It's with a shark/dolphin on a unicycle. To peddle you need to make a 360 with the D-pad.
Take my advice and use an arcade stick, else you will burn your thumb :wtf:
So finally, what I though would be an hour or so, I spend the whole day finishing the Aquatic games. (and busting up a controller...:shame:)
Attachment 7150
After all the events, you just get the final scoreboard and return back to the menu.
Done!
Cool, thanks for catching that (Raistlin) and replaying on Hard to get the "propah" ending (sjorspion). :)
It sure looks that way to me, especially if the ending is identical no matter what medals you get. Unless anyone objects, I'd say we call it done!
After a couple 6-0 6-0 losses in Tournament mode, I eventually managed to win a set in an exhibition against the game's worst player in David Crane's Amazing Tennis, so I'm claiming this one. You only need to win four consecutive matches to beat Tournament mode, which is a relief after the last three tennis games I've beaten.
BTW if anyone's looking for their next game, some suggestions:
Ariel: The Little Mermaid - an easy afternoon victory
B.O.B. - action-platformer with slight puzzle elements, better on SNES but still good on Genesis; lengthy, but gives regular passwords so it's not too frustrating
Faery Tale Adventure, The - password-based RPG, but with real-time save/load; grind in the beginning and you'll be invincible for the rest of the game; may be too empty/big for most folks but I really liked it; manual has a full walkthrough of the game (!)
Jewel Master - one of my favorite action-platformers on the Genesis, great music; be sure to read a manual before fighting the final boss
Trampoline Terror - fun, quirky arcade-style game with great presentation; again, reading the manual is helpful
I just got a PM from Discomusic who posted but is still in mod limbo. He beat Crusader of Centy, is 50 games into NBA Action '95, and confirms from his own experience that Aquatic Games can be considered cleared (based on sjorspion's post).
Absolutely, and it's much appreciated -- the write-ups are a huge part of what makes this thread fun. :D
*barges into thread drunk off his rocker*
Mystic Defender, Sonic & Knuckles, and James "Buster" Douglas Knockout Boxing (sports). Thank you.
I like to claim Predator 2 & Crack Down if that's ok :)
Played Alien Storm with my pal today, on the third attempt we beat it:
http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps8d6d1ca2.jpg
We played on normal, with normal energy and rapid fire on. It's quite a good game. But Golden Axe and Streets of Rage are better.
We also played a shitload of Marble Madness (Japanese version). But that doesn't go here.
However, this might do:
http://i889.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps38220c36.jpg
I noticed it said "must do Mickey and Donald paths". Obviously, we could only play the "both path". If it counts or not, I am not the man to decide :).
It's a nice game, I really like the atmosphere on the first level. Very nice parallax scrolling and fitting music. However, the entire game isn't as magical, it has its ups and downs. It's a good beginner's game though, especially for co-op.
Nice one.
Awesome port, though. If we manage to beat all the games this year, we'll have to think about where we want to expand -- but Japanese exclusives are probably the last frontier, given the language issues. :(
I think we still need to beat the individual paths, but since all three modes (Mickey, Donald, combined) have subtle and not-so-subtle differences in the stages, I think beating all three is the way to go. So in other words, what you did is helpful. :D
Well, I've gotten my ass handed to me by the first two games I've mentioned within the last 24 hours, so not too good. :( I forgot how frustrating S&K is as a standalone game, with its lack of save RAM and whatnot. I of course am aiming for an all-emerald run with both characters. MD has poor jumping mechanics and a nasty platforming section in Stage 4 that can easily deplete your lives and continues.
I really loved the first 2 Predators movies, so when this game come out I had to have it!
Predator 2 for the Mega drive/Genesis is an isometric game (just like Diablo etc) .
Playing with a arcade stick can be a bit more comfortable, than the D-pad (or like I did: use my retro-adapter to use the analog stick from a PSX-controller)
You are Lieutenant Harrigan, who shoots his way to the many gang-members and eventually the Predator(s).
So grab you weapons and blast your way to the waves of gang-members/ drugsdealers / Thugs and predators.
They'll keep coming out of the doors forever. (unless you blast at a door untill there is some blood on it. No enemies will come through this door anymore (for a while))
When killing an enemy it will drop drugs that you can pickup (for the drugsquad, not for Harrigan ;P) for points.
You have one handgun, which you can use by pressing the B button (When you holding it down, you will keep firing in that direction). The other buttons (A&C) are used for firing and selecting the special weapons (such as Bombs, machineguns, shotguns and later on the weapons of the predator: His spear, net and blade)
The game follows the movie quite well:
First on the streets, then the rooftops, back on the streets.
Through the Subway, this is the first time the predator is there as an enemy, to the slaughterhouse
And finally via the streets on to the Alien Ship.
These pictures in the beginning of every level give a bit of the feel from the movie
Attachment 7175
These 7 levels are all based on the same principles:
Rescue the number of hostages before the predator can get them with his crosshair (the famous 3 red dots)
And than run to the exit before the crosshair gets you (the predators face will be in the corner of the screen) or defeat the level boss. (such as a Truck with gunners or the predator himself)
'Oops, to late...'
Attachment 7180
Somewhere during the game I got a bit lazy and just ran to every hostage without paying to much attention to the enemy. Resulting in bullet hell of choppers, taxi's, motorbikes and thugs shooting, driving and flying by ;)
The game can be hard at some point, for instance on the alien ship. I often had to get hit, to go further because of the endless stream of predator that keep coming though that door. Also don't try to destroy the wall guns, because they can't be destroyed. Some levels can be a bit of a maze, but there are red arrows that will point you in the right direction.
Save the predator weapons only for the predators, because there can be hard to kill with the 'human' (special) weapons.
But after every level you get a password, BUT when you use this password you will begin with 3 lives. So especially level 6 and 7 can get hard with 3 lives.
"You're one ugly M..F.."
Attachment 7176
After that you get your trophy, a gun from 1715 (Yes, people they have been here before!)
Attachment 7177
Then get your ass off the ship and just the nick of time you jump out of the leaving spaceship (explosions, boom! Bang!)
Then the highscore and credits.
Attachment 7179
I'm still alive. More TSB 2 progress.

Almost there, almost there.
If we beat or don't beat all Genesis games this year, all European exclusives, Sega CD and 32X should be added in first hand IMO. If we don't beat all Genesis this year, maybe an updated challenge called "Can Sega-16 beat all Genesis + Mega Drive EU exclusives and/or Sega CD and/or 32X games in 1½ year?" or something like that could be done.
Two down, one to go :).
