this year for christmas I got my first Genesis ever. And I Love it!
One year I gave my model 2 Genesis to my sister. Then about 10 years later she gave it back to me. So it was a re-gift re-gift or something.
Here goes for my first post. I think it was the Christmas of '93. I begged my mother all year for X-Men and a Genesis. I always opened the small presents first, so I grabbed what I thought was a VHS taped from on top of a large gift and unwrapped it to find X-Men! I immediately shouted out "how can play this with only my Nintendo?" not realizing that my Genesis w/ Sonic 2 was right in front of me hidden in wrapping paper. My mother just replied "well you already know what the big present is" & I had know idea:confused:
My family also has a strange tradition of giving 1 or 2 gifts on New Year's eve, I know this is how got Wolverine, Power Ranges, Sonic & Knuckles, & Spider-Man/ X-Men in Arcade's Revenge in the following years.
I purchased my own Model 1 with Flashback and MKII for like $80 back in 1995. My parents refused to get me any home console stuff back in the day as I had a computer.
Anyway it was attached to a model 1 Sega CD later on and for Christmas I got me an AIWA BOOKSHELF SYSTEM that was get this 60WATTS. The thing was awesome and I hooked up my Genesis sound through it and played my new copy of Sonic 3D blast, the only home console game I ever got until I finally got a PS1. what a Christmas
My parents on the other hand would have feigned ignorance and said something like "Oh no! We must have bought a game for the wrong system."
Christmas '93 was awesome. For my birthday which is two weeks before Christmas I had gotten a Gamegear bundled with Sonic 2, Dracula and Defenders of the Oasis. Then for Christmas my brother and I received a Sega Genesis bundled with Sonic 1, Aladdin, I think DeCap Attack. Apparently while shopping for the GameGear (which I begged for) my dad found and wanted the Genesis.
Next year I know I got Shadowrun because it had only two saves which my dad and brother claimed. So my dad made it up to me by buying a second copy.
We all did. Actually I'm playing it again now. The beginning of the game is really hard and grindy, but once you accumulate enough karma to beef up your physical attributes and combat skills the game becomes a lot more fun. I also always recruit Mars, the shotgun wielding troll, because with his maximum native body of 11 he becomes an invincible tank.
I only had about 5 Genesis games growing up and most of them I bought myself, except for maybe Jurassic Park. I was a big renter growing up since I couldn't afford games so that's how I got by.
Recently my wife got me a couple small things for Xmas last year so that was cool, but I like doing the Secret Santa here since I can still get Genesis goodies even though it's 20 years later!
My original Genesis was a Christmas gift, as well as quite a few games from relatives that year. It's one of my most remembered and cherished Christmases from childhood.
This year, knowing I'm a Genesis fanatic, my mother got me the well-intentioned gift of the latest At Games clone (she picked it up at a Rite Aid on sale for thirty bucks). I was going to keep it to be polite but both the controllers had a few non-functioning buttons so I was justified in taking the piece of crap back.
