Have fun everybody!
No, don't try to advocate the inclusion of the Dreamcast, I'll be watching you sheath! ;)

Exhumed, no blurry textures.
I'm obviously mocking the N64 with that title, don't get fresh with me already guys!
Does perfect dark even count? Because technically that game came out after the 6th gen already started. So arguably its a 6th gen game. (the same thing might be said for medal of honor and quake II)
What no hexen on the list?! I'm joking lol. hmm not sure what to pick tho....
Quake 2 on the Ps1 looks surprisingly good much better than the N64 version with the expansion and has four player split screen. To be honest I could just as easily pick half the games on the list, but I don't think anyone is going to pick a Playstation game on this website.
You can find Hexen and a couple others here:

I firmly agree about your Quake II comments, that's why I demoted the N64 version to the other poll.
I picked Duke Nukem on the PS1, hehe, you don't need to feel guilty.
Despite the usual overhype about the Saturn version graphics, the PS1 version is far more faithful to the PC game containing all three original episodes, plus a new one. It doesn't have all the changes, cuts and simplifications that were done in the Saturn and it also has a neat quick saving feature. Besides the graphical cuts, the Saturn version also lacks several Duke voice samples, which detracts something from the original mood of the game. Aside from the frame rate, the PS1 version is usually criticized for having poor controls, which isnt true at all IMO. It's just that the default layout is a mess but if you use the "Doomed" config it controls like a dream. It's also dual shock compatible, using both analogs (some people also hate it, but IMO they are just too lazy to adapt to a different control scheme).
Duke was fun, played it on PC. I can't say much on the Saturn games as i sadly never got the system until like maybe a week ago. So I'm going to go with PD. I love how you change all the weapons for MP and make your own char, kind of, as well as all the maps and classic maps from golden eye. Change the setting to whatever you wanted no auto aim no raider one woot! I played that game until around 2009 with my friends and now the game and system is packed up and we play the on XBLA now.
Powerslave/Exhumed - its engine formed the basis of most good FPS games of the time.
This is a tough one. I think the Slave Driver engine is probably the most impressive considering it was coded by one guy who didn't even like the Saturn. Then again Quake II on PS1 is technically more impressive, unless the polygon counts were actually cut down to Quake 1 levels and we just can't tell. I also find Quake 1 on Saturn more technically impressive than Powerslave or Duke 3D, though Duke is a pretty close second for the Saturn.
Powerslave is much more impressive in 1996 than the other games for their times.
Exhumed !
I need to install some super battery or get the saves cart for my Saturn. I had a great save that is now gone.....
I'd say either Quake or Powerslave on the Saturn are the most impressive considering when they came out. There are others that look better, but I wouldn't say they are more impressive considering the time and hardware.
duke nukem 3D for saturn had netlink compatibility, so that gets my vote.
I voted goldeneye. My second choice would be duke nukem 3d.
Seems like using a larger eeprom would increase the amount of games you could save on one cartridge... I think i saw a Sega CD mod where somebody increased the amount of internal SRAM by replacing it with a different chip, allowing the user to save more games.
Maybe something similar could be done with the Saturns SRAM...
I think the poll is spread too thin over too big of a time frame. Turok 1 should really be on there too, even though I don't care for it, a good argument can be made for it.
We're not talking about a specific game but the the Save Cartridge for the Saturn. I would assume increasing the chip on that cart would give you more space to save games. Unless there's a ROM on that cart that can only address 8000 blocks then I don't think there would be much stopping you from either increasing the size of an existing cartridge or making your own larger cart.
Perfect Dark is easily the best game on that list, followed closely by Goldeneye.
At least, I'm assuming that by "impressive" you don't mean the port quality, since you included these two games that aren't ports. Which, incidentally, is also what makes them stand out so much.
They already made larger save cartridges during the life of the Saturn. Games can't save directly to them, you can only transfer saves.
This guy on Digital Press' Retrogaming roundtable has several for really cheap.

Best game, yes, but not impressive for the time.
Being able to keep a port close to the original can be impressive, but I went more for the native game that truly showed off the console.Quote:

Even considering the N64 hardware PD isn't that impressive. It doesn't jump out as amazing for the N64 hardware like Powerslave and Quake do for the Saturn hardware. When I look at Perfect Dark I'm not impressed, as it's pretty standard for the N64. When I look at Powerslave or Quake on the Saturn I'm amazed considering the Saturn's hardware and the difficulty to get that level of 3D out of it.
Trekkies just stumbled on an insinuation that I don't like. To say that Powerslave, Duke 3D or Quake is most impressive on the Saturn, with Quake II on the PS1, is to claim that the Saturn was a generation behind the PS1 in 3D capabilities. Since my game experience of both platforms is that both are roughly equal, with trade offs, I cannot do that.
I think Quake II is the most impressive game technically on this poll as a result. It's second generation 3D FPS running on 1994 hardware with only 2MB of RAM and 1 MB of VRAM. If they got it running at half resolution with double pixels on Saturn I'd be impressed.
On the other hand, the addition of a 3D hand isn't all that impressive to me and the lack of online death match isn't either. I'm guessing that Quake II on PS1 has system link, but it also has four player split screen doesn't it? We need a video of that running. That does it, I'm running to ebay and buying it right now.
I think Powerslave was really impressive for 1996, regardless of hardware.
