This thread was created to help users and guests know their consoles and help them in their quest of getting a certain board revision or model easily

Information Needed:
- System Model and Region
- VA# board revision
- Manufacture date (determined by the latest component on the board, if possible)
- Serial Number
- Country of Manufacture
List:

I don't know the date or serial number off hand, but the other info for my Genesis is as follows:

Model 2
Revision VA0
Made in Taiwan

I can get the serial number later this evening. It might be worth nothing other bits of information, such as the video encoder, ASIC version, etc.

I suggest using hyphens ( - ) to separate the bits of information, so that you don't get confused with the spacing. Quite a few parts need alignment...

When I have time, I'll see about listing my many Geneses, but it won't be right now.

That's about the most inaccurate you can get. It just gets you when the youngest chip on the machine was made, not when the machine was put together. Mine has 1991 stamped on the back of the motherboard but no date. Newest chip I can see is 9204. Serial is B20280009, Japan, VA6 with CXA1145.

Unfortunately there is no such thing like that on the MD. Only some boards have an ink datestamp, and most of those are Model 2s.

Going through the archive of pics I have, both model 1 and 2, machines with serial starting with 1, A and 4 have datestamps, while ones starting with 2, 8 and 9 don't. The rest I don't have full galleries of.

I don't know much about the Model 2s as I almost always stick with model 1s, so I wouldn't know if anything was wrong. Going by serial number on the list it would appear as such, but I'm sure it's a VA2.

Guess I need to go get it and investigate.

From what I've read, this revision seems to have the closest quality sound to the original Model 1 HDG. I like my model 2 because it looks nice with the 32X attached. Also, I like the fact that model 2's support stereo sound through AV, so I get the best sound through the CRT TV it's hooked up to.

Once you mod its sound circuit by using Ace's circuit, then yes. It's the closest one to the Model 1 because it uses a discrete YM2612.
