Is Heroes of The Lance the most broken game in existance?

This topic is a discussion regarding the late 1990 NES port of the Dungens and Dragons Amiga game "Heroes of The Lance" a game universally HATED among NES conisssuiers.

I would like some feedback regarding experiences with this game. I can only remember a recent one. I played it 2009 at GamesPlus. It is an unplayable,ugly,spastic broken piece of crap.

First of all the graphics are horrible. The sprites and colors look like green bile. Nothing detailed, mangled sprites and drab enviorments, The sounds are limited to grunts and the music is annoying.

The inventory system is also broken too. You can pick up anything without it and have to switch characters in a confusing,cryptic ass way. The battle system and hit detection is also horrible, the enemies may be small, but they can flat out kick your ass and kill your party within seconds.

The control is also broken too. And the spells feel cheap. The game can also been beaten in 20 minutes if you know what your doing as well.


I'm not a fan of Dungeons and Dragons and haven't read the "Dragon Lance" novels. But I'd like know someone who has and why the NES adaptation sucks so much.

I have done nothing wrong in this topic.

After getting my NES in 1995, I went to a local retro game shop and saw Heroes of the Lance, with box, for like $3. I passed up Ninja Gaiden loose for HotL because it was boxed and HATED IT. It's not that it was confusing, because I was able to get through it (it's actually pretty short), it's that it's just not fun. I hate this game so much. This was my first NES game.

Any word if the SMS version is any better?

I heard the Master System version is much smoother.

I also read that somebody on Gamefaqs got the NES game when he was like 10 and told his friend that "It was boring and stupid, and they both decided to take it outside and smash it with a hammer" and they did.

Ha, never smashed mine. Still have it complete with box and manual. It's literally worthless to me, though.

Betteridge's law of headlines comes into play here. Impossible Mission for Atari 7800, Bi! Bi! for Atari 2600, and any number of computer games including Big Rigs -- all of these and more are infinitely more broken than Heroes of the Lance.

(Whether HotL is a horrible game is a separate question, of course.)

In my opinion Big Rigs is a TROLL game.

Everytime you play it, you feel like this was made unplayable on purpose. No human could have unintentionally designed a game this horrendous let alone a PC game.

This is a perfectly legitimate thread, it seems a bit hypocritical that you are basically trolling here.
