Is Heroes of The Lance the most broken game in existance?

HotL is far from a completely broken game. Heck I'd even call it a rather interesting idea. It's just not implemented well enough to be very fun but it's not even a very difficult game if you know what you're doing in it. There are tons of worse games for the NES than that one so in that regard I'm defending it.

I don't really care for it myself, but Hydlide isn't broken it's just very archaic. It was one of the first attempts at the RPG genre by a Japanese developer and you really have to look at it in that context to appreciate it.

I don't mind Hydlide either. It's very clearly a predecessor to games like Ys and Xak. If you play it that way, you can actually go through the game and pick up where future mechanics came from and got refined. It's not much fun to play now, in the same way that Galaga upstaged Space Invaders, but it's neat for a historical lesson.
