If only it were true though. A high end tablet/console from Sega is a neat idea. As long as Sega instituted a first party effort like Nintendo (as in, CONSTANT releases), I'd be there day one.

Alienware is Dell, and dell is trying to get out of desktop business and focus on a more enterprise level.. not a likely candidate.
And a tablet meant to be non portable? Talk about a clash of identity that would go nowhere. Tablets are popular now BECAUSE they are portable and more than powerful enough to get the basics done... and are getting more powerful every year.
People do not buy a tablet in order to tether it to their big screen TV and a power brick... they want to take it with them. If the battery life is a few shades better than "fucking horrible" it won't be popular.
Tablets are NOT a target for serious gamers, like phones they are targets for people that want a multi function device that can play some fun games... maybe even the odd serious one now and again.
And a Blackberry VMU? RIM is going down the drain and struggling to find not only an identity, but also trying like hell to maintain their death grip on corporate devices... more and more are ditching the blackberry in favor of IOS and Android devices.
I wont say it's impossible that a "desktop replacement" tablet could actually succeed, but they would have to pull some major hoodoo magic to even have a tiny chance of doing that.
Now, a solid normal Droid tablet that could compete with the likes of the galaxy tab? That has a chance, especially if it has some good hardware, a decent price point, and some nice bundled software from Sega... but still a far cry from a gaming centric device.
Look at the Wii u, it's not exactly flying off the shelves like the wii was... the tablet feature just isn't a major selling point, Sega would be in an even worse position, especially if they tried it with their own custom OS.
For the sake of the Forum and discussion.
Sega has a marketing department? Pardon the jab.
So will it cost an arm and a leg? There's a reason why "Gaming" Tablets are not cheap. People may play games on Tablets, but the ability to play any advanced games is not a selling point for most consumers. Tablets basically surf the web, videos, email, and other basic tasks. Most of it's games are freemium and not very compelling.
The Coming Consoles are rumored to be utilizing Modified 2012 tech. I don't think Sega will be scaring anyone with 2010 technology. Well, maybe Nintendo....
(Bad Jab I know)
Sega has Amazing persuasion power I'll give it that. Convinving 4 different major companies to set aside R&D solely for them. Nevermind that they managed to pack the power of nearly 3 year old Enthusiast grade Desktop class Dual-GPU inside a mobile package. THAT tech is not of this world.
ARM IS RISC. It never was not. Cortex is merely a brand name for a certain line of ARM tech.
The Xbox had more than enough Silicon to take on the PS2, that didn't stop the PS2 from running away with the money.
LG, Toshiba, and Vizio all make their own tablets. The last thing any of them want in a cutthroat market is more baggage. Alienware has already been mentioned to be owned by Dell who is trying to go private.
Also why would an enthusiast Gaming PC maker want to sell you a tablet when most tablets have a hard enough time competing with the ipad? Even at lower price ranges.

Comments? Objections?
First of all, if SEGA still plans on reusing the VMU concept it would have the same function, the Blackberry VMU would be used in the exact same manner & would act as backup for the Tablet's Internal Storage.
Second, like I mentioned earlier, SEGA wants the Tablet to have Laptop features, technology & functions. Last I've heard, Laptops have both Peripheral & Portable features. The idea from what it sounds like, is
that SEGA POD can be used as both a Tablet and a Laptop. People use Laptops either on-the-go or
at home as a PC or Plug-in Apparatus. It's highly likely SEGA sees success in this idea.
As for Wii U, the reason why it's sales are so lackluster and so dismal is the execution. Nintendo
assumed that they could repeat the same success using Touch screen technology. Trouble is, the marketing has been poor, casual & non Nintendo gamers have better executed mobile devices that implement touch screen technology. The Gamepad technology itself is nothing but Basic LCD & is extremely outdated.
SEGA's Ring series boards use LED multi touch so their Tablet would not have basic touch screen
tech.
Again, there's massive potential and an untapped market with SEGA POD, if SEGA pitches
the idea of having a Tablet function like a Laptop, I think they'll do just fine.

If SEGA doesn't use PC OEM, it wouldn't cost very much and wouldn't have a high or mid range BOM pricing point.

Actually according to Semi Accurate and several overseas facilities, both Durango/Oban and Thebes/Starsha use modified updated 2011 technology.
AMD Bulldozer Thebes/Starsha's tech is from 2011 and Jaguar is the same variation using a R10 GPU instead of R9. And Durango uses Intel Power i7 Lynnfield/Haswell while Oban uses IBM Power 7 Watson both from 2010-2011. The Xbox 3 build has a new modified AMD Radeon R11 "Sea Island" GPU. If my calculations are correct, Charlie Semi Accurate's admin's statement here:
"Everyone tells me both machines are woefully underpowered, but no exact numbers.
-Charlie"
May be true.
With that being said, all 3 platforms would blow Wii U completely away.

Every single of one these are OEM brands still contracted by SEGA. Imagination Tech and Hitachi ARE still doing business with SEGA. In fact in 2010, SEGA renewed silicon contracts with Imagination Tech. Nvidia was left out of the GPU race with the big three and have their own ambitions. SEGA wants something budgetary. GeForce is the cheapest basic option.
The Xbox had more than enough Silicon to take on the PS2, that didn't stop the PS2 from running away with the money.
Except that now Sony is seriously hurting financially. They're in last place console wise and have a load of bad financial problems beginning with losing capital and taking HUGE losses on their core markets. During PS2, Sony had revenues close to $15 billion from Playstation alone, today its barely even $1 billion core wise and not even around $800 million annually for Playstation. Sony also had $100 billion in assets, today, $67 billion. Their net worth was once $83 billion a decade ago, today, $46 billion. Their market cap in 2002 was $32 billion, now its $10.8 billion. The cash they had? $20 billion. Today? $6 billion. Sony is in a very weakened state, their on the verge of meltdown the way things are headed.

LG,Toshiba and Vizio have basic niche market ordinary Tablet devices. SEGA is looking at the gaming market. If it is not eqquipped with mobile tech like all tablets are, it wouldn't be on the same level. It would stand alone as a hybrid. All 3 of these brands would have no problem marketing and distributing SEGA's mainstream gaming device.
WTH is LED multi touch?
You do realize that an "LED" screen is just an LCD using LED's as a back-light don't you? There really isn't any functional difference between the technology as far as the end user is concerned unless one or the other is better with visuals/performance for a specific task.
And every new tablet is multi touch.. there's nothing unique about that. And there is nothing unique about a convertible tablet either. Toshiba had them for years, as did many others, long before the iPad came around. They sold pretty badly because people want something thin and light to hold. They don't want a 15lb beast of a system with no battery capacity... they want something small, light, and enough to get the job done + as much extra as they can fit to not compromise the weight and battery life.
All current tablets hit that mark, and can be used with an external keyboard and secondary gesture device (pen for instance) to turn it into as much of a laptop as the old convertible tablets were.
There isn't a single thing Sega could do in that regard that would impress anyone unless they are going to suddenly be able to out hardware all the current top players... I don't see that happening.
And that's not even touching the need to out software google, apple, and MS for the OS AND make up for the lack of any particularly noteworthy app ecosystem.
As for RIM, I mentioned it because it would tether them to a sinking ship, and if it was only going to be 1990's functionality like the old VMU, why the hell would they partner with RIM for it? There are tons of cheaper alternatives that would work as good/better.
The simple fact that MrSega never reveals where he gets his so called "insider information" and "speculation" tells me that he is merely making the whole thing up. He likes to claim that Sega has "Military Top Secret" protection on their console projects and that somehow is supposed to explain how no one else knows about any of these Sega plans, of course we are supposed to beleive that he has a hidden "mole" within Sega sending him this crap.
This guy follows Zach Morris of all people and has been for at least 3 years, that alone should tell you that he is pulling his "rumors and speculation" from out of his ass. Then there is that trademark that MrSega is so fond of, the only part of his little fantasy that actually is actually real, as has been pointed out countless times before that trademark document is, at best, incredibly VAGUE and if you look at the status it is currently SUSPENDED, which seems to indicate that the USPTO is not going to give the trademark to Sega because it is too vague, thereby rendering this whole ridiculous circus dead and buried, just like that other Sega trademark that MrSega leapt on last year, go look up KidsPad and this one is also suspended.
Oh btw as people try to counter MrSega's ridiculous claims and start to call them false he's start accusing people of being trolls etc, it happened on the Sega forums and on Dreamcast-Talk. Apparently he is the only one with the truth..lol
LED(liquid electronic display) would differentiate the tablet from Wii U's Gamepad and older tech LCD devices and allow it to compete touch screen wise with iOS and other Tablet devices as well as make lighting and streaming alot more balanced.
I'm aware of that. Multi touch wouldn't leave SEGA in the dust. It would allow the screen to function like any other device. Also remember, no Tablet device has specs that can compete against Laptops.
In regards to Apps, SEGA has Novell reportedly planned for OS and Middleware Ever heard of Novell Vibe?

As well as old UNIX intructions? Its likely SEGA(having seen the effects of the 2011 PSN breach) wants to revert back to a UNIX coded OS.
And again, VMU was designed to work like a calculator. It used monochrome, if the re-design uses a Blackberry function plus VMU with RIM technology, then its features would be closer to that of a PDA(which was found in the reference. In the patent) sold as a cheap low end memory card and PDA.
I don't think it should be a tablet, at least not an Android based one. Too generic for Sega.
Sega was known for creating custom, innovative hardware.
