Sega Mega CD Mk I: Need Help!

I have been looking for a Model 1 Sega Mega CD for quite some time. Yet I have not found much luck in finding one that is within reasonably priced, or is in tip-top working condition. So I am asking, is there anyone who has a Mega CD Mk 1 (the one with the motorized tray) that they don't need anymore, that still works, and is compatible with PAL regions (like England or Australia)? I am also concerned about the potential of scams. So hopefully there are honest people who can help me with their wares. So can someone please help me with myself finding a good deal with a Sega Mega CD Model 1? I would greatly appreciate it if were possible.

Gonna warn you ahead of time, you're not gonna find a "deal" on a working Model 1, unless it's broken. They are uncommon as it is, let alone in working condition. Gonna pony up the cash for a working or refurbished one.

Well, given the above information, could someone please tell me what would be the cheapest price possible if it's working or refurbished, if any are available to purchase? Since I live in Australia, what would be the options for postage and handling?

Check out ebay.co.uk and .de, and find a person who will ship to Oz. They pop up now and then, described as working.

Working Model 1s typically go for $100 - $120. Shipping would add more. A refurbished Model 1 is worth more, because refurbished systems will last longer than an original unserviced system. I don't know what a working Model 1 would cost you in Australia. Try asking omp, he might know.

Guntz is right on with pricing. A working model 1 goes for $99 in the local game shop here. When they have them in stock, that is.

A model 2 however goes for $69 at the same shop.

That's okay. I've already found a Model 1 Mega CD for a good price on Ebay. All is well with the world.

You are prolly right, shipping to austrialia specified on its own and everything. Not too bad a price either.

Bad news, I'm afraid. The postal price turned out to be a little too much for purchase. So I had to get a refund. If anyone can help me with this problem, of finding a working Model 1 Mega CD, please don't hesitate to ask.

You bought it without asking shipping cost, or did the seller quote you too little and it cost more once the seller was about to ship? I dunno what you got quoted, but shipping something heavy like that internationally with any margin of safety will never be cheap. Especially now that postal services across the globe have been raising prices the past year or so.

Actually it was a miscalculation in the weight of the good. Since it was 1.8 kgs and not 1.4 kgs as first thought.

I paid 60 bucks for my working model 1 in 2012.

PAL model 1 is harder to find than NTSC. If you don't have a serious need for the model 1 differences, it might be worth reconsidering this.

As an American I don't know whether model 1 was officially released in Australia. The topic brings up a good question.

Actually i find it easier to find a claimed working PAL model 1, especially on ebay.co.uk. There is almost always at least one for sale the times i look, often they are bundled with a megadrive and games. Not the same with a US NTSC on ebay.com where most seem to be either "as is", "untested" or ridiculously overpriced per ebay.com standards...

I bought my PAL model 1 with Mega Drive from the UK and it was close to $170 shipped, this was a while ago and cheaper than trying to find one in Australia at the time. This one has been fully serviced (by me) bar new laser and is for my son (it was mine but I have passed it over to him).

I also purchased a Sega CD model 1 in a "faulty" lot along with 2 Sega CD2's shipped from the USA for $160 from memory, got all 3 going the Sega CD took a LOT of work to get going though.

Best bet if you want a model one, just budget a bit more. Sad as it is...

A lot of model 1's seem to be in beat up condition too, especially the front trim surround as people just tear them out without diss-assmebling properly.

Yes model 1's were sold here in Australia, a high school mate had one, I believe they were around $700 if memory serves.
