They're simultaneously working on a Dreamcast adaptation, news is often posted on Assemblergames forum.
Last I heard, they were getting near the point where they could start the beta testing but not yet.
Cybdyn, the brains behind both the PSIO and DCIO has expressed interest in making a MCD version. There is a thread on the PSIO site. The problem is that he needs systems for research. If I could, I would gladly donate a MCD to him if it meant getting disc emulation for the MEGA-CD. Even if I found a cheap system, which is kinda impossible these days, it would cost a fortune to send it to him. He said other systems such as the PCE and Saturn would also be fairly easy to emulate.
I say we wait till he releases the PSIO, if it turns out to be real and awesome we could always hold a donation drive
and someone in his country could acquire the sega stuff he needs.
Because a Sega CD "flashcart" would be nice to have.
The forum seems the best place for news, the development thread is updated quite frequently. The 'NEWS' section hasn't been updated for a bit, which is a bit strange promo wise. Let's keep it all crossed for more Sega 'IOs' in the future.
That sounds like a really good idea and I was thinking the same thing. Having all the poor, dead "can't read discs" MEGA/SEGA-CDs in the world revived would be fantastic.Quote:

Because if you make a flashcart that takes over the disc part then you'd still need a Sega CD.
and really, how many Sega users have a Sega CD? not that many I can tell you.. so you would end up with a flashcart
that only a small amount of users could use, because they don't have a Sega CD.
no, if he does anything it will be a complete replacement for the Sega CD.
Which in my case is kinda sucky, cause I do have a Mega CD hooked up to mine. and it looks so fucking big and menacingly awesome! :o
The assumption is that the majority of the PCB board and chips would be exactly the same for PS1, Dreamcast, SegaCD, etc. implementations. The lone difference would be maybe a data cable to go from the IO board to the respective machine. Or they have to make different interfaces for each system. If the parts are cheap enough, and labor not bad enough, why not? You've got people like me already willing to buy for the DC and PS1. I may well consider getting a SegaCD, especially given that many of those systems have failed drives, but the system still works.
Just got my PSIO yesterday and it works nicely. You do have to solder a little chip thingy to the main board and cut a trace or two, but installation of that is about on par with single switch modding a version 2 MD.
For all games that use CDDA you must have a CU2 sheet. It doesn't like CUEs for some reason. There are files you can use on Redump.org to make these, but for hacks and unreleased / homebrew games these can't always be found. Does anyone know if there is a way to either manually write a CU2 sheet, or generate one from a BIN CUE image? Google has not been my friend on this one!
