I have no idea, sorry.
I still have yet to work this out...
Purchased my Mega Cart used from a forum member here, then was disappointed to realize it doesn't work with my X-eye (which is my primary unit for playing Sega 16-bit)Quote:
Q. Is the Megacart compatible with the Xeye (JVC)?
A. Well, it is. However, you need to keep/place the xeyefix.bin file in
the bank0 (it reduce the free rom area to only 8Meg).
As the xeyefix.bin file can be erased manually, it is highly recommended to have
a working Megacart Adaptater to eventually flash again the xeyefix.bin
For more information, you can still play 24MEG games
on the Xeye but it will erase xeyefix.bin
This Mega Cart seems to be a vital resource for anyone that owns a Sega CD. I'll have to pick one up, since the prices for the original BackUp RAM carts are, for lack of a better word, retarded.
With the details given in this thread, I now understand what the Mega Cart does. Sure, it may not work exactly the same, but I'm not complaining!
Is it essential to get the Mega Cart package with the disc and cable?
It's saying it's advisible to use the cable to flash the bin to your Megacart for it to work with your X-Eye; but you can achieve the same results by flashing the bin to the cart from a compatible Mega Drive or Sega Mega CD.
No, but it helps alot. I don't have a cable, I just throw whatever roms I want on a disc and flash them that way; it does the job.
