The end of the dreamcast?

It looks like Sega will be halting production of GD-Roms here soon, the format of the Dreamcast, and the Naomi arcade board:

If this is true, then it looks like Trigger Heart Excelica (feb) and Karosu (march) will be the last official games to hit the dreamcast. The above link is trying to get people together to mail Sega and tell them how they feel about this.

So what do you think? Personally, it's been an amazing run, dreamcast games in japan from 1998-2007 isn't half bad. (sure the last few years have only seen a handful each, and of only one kind), but I thought it would be a good idea to inform everyone about this.

I was hoping Final Fantasy XIV would be Dreamcast-exclusive. I guess not. :(

Yeah, and at least one of it's five spin-off games for the VMU. I guess not, too :/.

GD-ROMs are also used in Naomi 2, Triforce, and Chihiro... seems a bit soon to be discontinuing production.

Look at it this way. Maybe they're proposing discontinuing support so they can concentrate on SEGAs next console.

The Dreamcast is an awesome bit of kit and the fact it has survived this long is an awesome achievement. I hope you're right Elusive, a new Sega console would be awesome (in theory).

It will be based on a modified multi-clock 680x0 32 bit multiprocessing setup.
It will have backwards compatability with all Genesis/SegaCD software but some games will end up with reduced slowdown.
System 32 video power at higher res.

And my DC is going in storage. I was hopefully get the last few games I wanted to buy today... but the damn ice prevented me from going out of the city.

According to him, dreamcast-scene is only assuming that Sega will stop GD-rom production, but there's been no official word from of Sega as of yet. Just read the posts and it should paint a better picture.

Yeah, it wouldn't make sense, as it's the only thing that's hampering their arcade software being bootlegged to hell.

The Dreamcast was seriously wounded... but the soul still burns.
