Right, the final SNES CD specs showed a 32-bit chip in a cartridge to manage the CD from the SNES cartridge port. I hope a developer will one day confirm in an interview that this was the early stages of the SFX chip design, as StarFox's launch pretty much killed any further hype for SNES CD.

So the SNES needed a 32 bit cart and CD Rom cpu to aid the SNES 3 mhz cpu as it was a slug ?

Yup, that top one and second to last one were two of the mock ups published in EGM as well. I just found some interesting snibbits about the SFX, SFX-2, and SVP that I'll post when they finish uploading.

Damn Nintendo/Sony could have ruled the world in 1994/5/6. Segas Sega CD, 32 x and possible Saturn plus Panosonic 3DO and Atari would have been left in dust by SuperNESCD perhaps. Maybe StarFox2, Mario64, KI2 would have been on CD unit and no N64 would ever come out, just SNES CD to Gamecube those years with Nintendo/Sony OWNING VG market. Sega still would have to wait until DC to fight back but nobody but Nintendo/Sony would be left at end. Would be hard for Microsoft to compete unless Microsoft/Sega happened. Basically only 2 companies and 2 sub companies. But I'm sure before all that, Sony would have got pissed at Nintendo and split off anyway like Phillips. Just my thoughts. Maybe I owe Sony an apology. (The did make Sega CD games and parts once for Sega)
Okay, that top one was the article that makes me think the SFX was going to be the main processor for the SNES CD.
Yeah reading my previous post top picture/article (right column), it suggests there was a 21 mhz CD Rom (PS) processor but the cart contained a new main 4 mhz 65c02 "Hands" cpu, so was that going to bypass (ignore) the SNES crappy 3 mhz cpu and the new 4 mhz "Hands" cpu + 21 mhz CD chip plus this "DRAM" all work together ? I luv my Classic Sega hardware but this is sexy :

I probably would have found a way to get a SNES and SNES CD Rom and sat it right next to my Genesis Sega CD 1. I love add-ons and I like how that looks a lot better than the original Playstation ended up.

I wonder if that simple math of one instruction per cycle equaling one million instructions per Mhz is right.
I'm no Mr Wizard with tech, but reading the article it suggests SFX2 (was that in any games or is that like a cart adapter to play various upgraded games ?) is the same or better than SVP. But the chart shows the SVP being better. So for the tech guys here, which one was better SFX1 SFX2 or SVP or were they similar side by side from chart or was guy who typed article paid by Nintendo ?Quote:
