Fan-made tech demo of Starfox on the Genesis

Not a full game by any means, but it's cool to see Starfox models running on a Genesis. :cool: It's kinda funny seeing it run as well as it does if that is stock Genesis hardware.

It'd be awesome if this is made into a full game.

Man that is awesome to see! It looks so similar to the SNES game. Just goes to show the Genesis is capable of a lot of neat things. :D

Just incredible. I agree with Espio, I think that the 32X or CD could really help with this one. Might even run better than the SNES after the upgrade ;)

Why do people always bring up the 32X when it comes to this kinda stuff? the whole point was that the Snes needed a special chip,
so when you reply with "oh derp put on 32X it wud be awezome" you're pretty much showing that you're missing the point completely.

IT RUNS ON A STOCK GENESIS WITHOUT ADD-ON'S!

That's what makes it so damn cool.

Just tried it on real hardware, runs pretty sweet considering its just a tech demo.

Gradient is better in the SNES game but the rest is only slightly better, and it still runs like a slideshow :P

Thanks for all kind comments :) I wanted to keep it private as it's still very preliminary, even for a simple demo... and I would have never imagine it could arrive here that quickly but anyway, here is the idea, we can do something close to the SNES Starfox on a stock genesis :p
The demo can be optimized in some way, i am really close to the original data structure format as i ripped them from the rom directly. For instance all the palette sub system use directly original rom data and code logic without any conversion. The original structures are heavily optimized for the SNES (many of byte stuff) so we can really do better if the made was made from scratch for the MD for instance ;)

The demo also explains why the last SGDK version bring majors changes on the 3D maths and bitmap rendering parts ;)

Hmm, I'm going to see how it runs on real hardware at 12Mhz this morning. I'll post the video later.

It will probably help but the software bitmap engine will never go higher than 20 FPS (NTSC) or 25 FPS (PAL) so that is a strict high limit.
What is bad on real hardware is the infamous vertical cell scrolling bug which affect the first column :-/

I'm pretty sure that would be better than the SNES game. ;)

Either way, it looks like you did an awesome job getting the look of the game translated. I'm supposing it would be too much to hope for a few level design ports in the future. Also, I've always wanted somebody to make a YM2612+PSG rendition of the soundtrack. Man I'd listen to that as often as the FFIV X68000 soundtrack.

I had a look at this and played the rom. It is excellent. Im really impressed with it. Maybe once you get it perfected you can made a similar game and release it on cart. I imagine many would be interested in this as much as I am

I bring it up because the 32x had a few polygon games that ran great. Yeah its a demo that shows it runs stock. I just bring up 32X because im curious to see the game running full speed full power. IF I had said I wanna see this on this on the sega CD then id just be silly. Oh and um.. derp derp.

This is looking great! I'd love to see the full game ported (like so many other people here have mentioned) or see how it'd look on the 32X or using the extra stuff on the Sega CD somehow.

It would be really cool if this somehow led to a brand new homebrew project for the Genesis that's sort of like Starfox, but not actually Starfox :D

If you did everything the original starfox did (paralax background, full draw distance, actual game engine behind rendering engine) I bet it'd top out at 2 FPS.
