My Sega Genesis mods are complete!

My VA3 Genesis, is done.. Project Genesis Ultimate is complete. Yes, a few of these mods are just kinda useless, but I did it more for shits and giggles. Since loosing my job I had nothing else better to do. Game compatibility appears to be 100% too, I've loaded up a LOT of ROMs on this thing without one glitch.

UPDATE: Fixed a typo in the CPU spec.

It's not a transformer, but it can breakdance to bad apple.

There's no more room on the back panel for more switches or ports..

I did want to add a VGA port though, but alas, no room. I could always though make an external VGA cable.

You could go and install a YM2413 for those pesky SMS games.
BTW, why such a fast SRAM? Genesis ROMs are waaay slower than that, not even close to 100ns.

Nice mods. I stay away from overclocks because it pretty much kills the option to run cd/32X but great job.

I chose the faster RAM, just for shits and giggles. It does nothing at all..

The overclock is switchable, so a Sega CD and 32X still work.

Overclock helps when there are lots of things on the screen.

Sonic 2 - 2 player mode, and some of Mega Bomberman's battle mode should benefit from overclocking.

Does it affect gameplay of regular games without slowdown though by accidentally speeding up whole are parts of game by 1 to 5 % ?

None what so ever. Only make some richer (multiple) movement rendering made faster and there for no slowdowns in scenes like already noted.

Anyone know what's the safest, best way to lift the leg of the 68000 chip without worrying about breaking it of? I know I already did the mod with my genesis but I plan to do that and all the other mods to other model 1s later on.

Heat the leg and use screwing pin or similar to lift the leg from hole.

Oh I didn't lift the leg, safer was just simply cutting the trace and soldering directly to it.

But that means you can't switch back to regular speed, meaning you can't use your 32x or Sega CD.

...you just reconnect the trace. Solder a wire from the leg solder side to the next solder point in the trace.

Congrats, thats a nicely modded machine. I think that for Genesis 1 owners the line out stereo sound mod is the most important - I find it sounds a lot better than via the headphone jack, and you don't have that annoying cable going to the headphone jack on the front of the console getting in the way.
Ofc PAL Mega Drive need to add to this the switches for 50/60hz and possibly the language switch also (although I haven't really found this to be particularily useful in practice).
That said, I have a spare MD1 PAL HDG non-TMSS model which is currently stock and if I ever mod that one for myself I will skip any switches and just cut the jumpers to lock it in 60hz / ENG and then just use an Everdrive with US roms.

Asides from the hardware mods, did you do any restorations on the case? That Genesis is in remarkably good shape, can't believe how perfectly shiny the "High Definition Graphics" circle is.

Eh, a little shine was done to it for photography.. It got a little scratched though since. It has been used in parties for things like bomberman, so sadly it got a little action.
