It looks nice in the video but I also want to see what a live demonstration looks like. What it really looks like hooked up via HDMI to a HD TV is what is going to actually sell me on this product.

Not for nothing, but the thing has a port for Famicom games, does it not? Everyone is saying their local shops don't have SMS games and that's reason enough not to have SMS compatibility. Last I checked, I've never seen a Famicom game in a used game shop. They're expecting people to go through the trouble of getting FC games online, so why not give people the option of getting SMS games from ebay to play on their emulator? Maybe it would get people to play SMS games that never would have otherwise?
I'm very tempted to get this, due to the GBA compatibility and save states. I'm also FED THE FUCK UP with my NES toaster. God, worst hardware design ever.
The only thing that makes me wary is build quality. I don't want to drop cash on a machine that feels like it was made for dollar store sales and burns out in a few months. Does anyone know what the quality of the console itself is like?
Can it play the Powe Base Converter for SMS Games?
A la verga....
Because anyone using that excuse is misinformed.
The real reason it doesn't have SMS compatibility is because nobody in Asia currently mass produces SMS cartridge slots and it would be cost prohibitive for them to have them custom made. Hyperkin said this themselves. It's the same reason there's no 2600 support or Game Gear support or "insert console here" support.
The Famicom on the other hand has one of the most mass produced cartridge slots in existence so why not throw it in.

My biggest hope would be for a firmware update that would allow the playing of 32X games from the Genesis slot.
Wellllll... my Retron 3 works pretty well, and handles pretty much every game I throw at it. I've seen some palette issues here and there, and some sound issues... but for the most part, it works very well. The build quality, however... if I'm being perfectly honest, I feel like I'm going to break the damn thing every time I use it. I haven't, and it's seen a lot of use over the past couple of years... but it feels cheap (and the crummy controllers it comes with are just garbage). I would hope that, since this version is going to be a little pricier, that they well reflect that higher cost with a little more care spent in the build quality department.
Amazon.com pre-orders are up! Link--->http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...eapassgam08-20
I was just thinking the other day, wasn't this supposed to be out months ago?
Show me Virtua Racing I say
I am interested to see how this does. I don't need it to be accurate (have my model 1 gen/segacd, cdx, and my nomad for that). But it would be great to hook up and play a few things all in one without having to jump through some of the hoops I normally do... but only if it's at least playable and enjoyable.
i preordered just in case....However, its only a week or two before the ps4 and xbone launch and I dont know if i can drop $100 on this at that time
They are keeping the SMS slot for the Retron 6, then the 2600 slot for the Retron 7. :p
Retron 5 looks interesting though, might even pick one up just for teh lulz of it.
I do wish it had an SMS slot though.

Hyperkin has set December 10, 2013 as the official release date for the RetroN 5.
Hyperkin explains the delay in release was due to several key modifications made to the console shown at E3. The shell design was changed to allow for better ventilation, as well as accommodations to use the Sega Power Base Converter allowing users to play Master System cartridges on the console.
