It's not really that different though, it's s pretty standard european platformer. It feels heavily influenced by The New Zealand Story, which makes sense because that is one of the most influential Euro platformers of all time. It might feel different in the us and Japan because the new Zealand Story didn't have nearly the impact in those regions as it did in Europe.Quote:

The new zealand story? If anything, the question is did the Dizzy series ever get as popular as The New Zealand Story, which I'm betting the answer is no. From everything I've read, Dizzy was merely one of the best, most popular games on the ZX Spectrum that eventually got ported everywhere, while The New Zealand Story is one of the most influential games of all time in Europe. I've read countless developer commentaries that credits The New Zealand Story as inspiration. It never reached such heights in the US or Japan, but in Europe The New Zealand Story spawned an entire generation of clones and knock offs. Dizzy never came near that.Quote:

Newzealand Story was, originally, a popular arcade game while Dizzy was a popular Spectrum/Amstrad game.
I was a console gamer back then and, honestly, i only discovered Dizzy through emulation (and i live in Europe). Newzealand Story on the other hand got home conversions for both consoles and home computers.
