I prefer 12 bit drum machines over 16 bit machines, because of the gritty sound, I don't prefer 8 bit machines over 12 bit though. I can tell the difference simply by listening. I got a damn good ear for frequencies. I can tell tell an mp3 from a wav in a heartbeat. We can nitpick this to death as to why, how, this and that but the end result is the md voices sound fucking worse overall then the other 2 on this. Maybe most who have great to avg hearing agree, because it's true.
Are SF2 WW snes voices mufled ? Yes. Are SF2 CE md voices grainy and garbly as hell ? Yes. Which one do I prefer ? SNES version. SSF2 are worse yet it seems.
You really don't need to triple post. We get it, SNES has better sounding voices in Street Fighter.
And others don't need to double or triple post but do as well and nobody says a damn thing. Ask the admins to erase MY double or triple posts if it bothers you.

The PC Engine voices are much better than both. And I'd rather have the Scratchy full voices on the Genesis than the chopped up, speed and pitch altered mess of voices the SNES port has.Quote:

Getting the obvious out of the way, the Genesis voice samples aren't up to snuff in this game. I preferred the intense beat of the Genesis stage music here, however. There's nothing particularly bad about the SNES music, though."

Good video and nice comments here, just thought it would be cool to post this.
SNES Street Fighter 2 uses some clever psychoacoustic tricks to fit all the voices into the memory, by cutting out some consonants and lingering vowels (like hadoooken turns into hado- ken). I find the SNES music pretty terrible though, it's pretty blatant how many instrument samples haven't been tuned correctly and I find it pretty baffling how so few notice this.
the Sharp X68000 had the best SF2 music, hands down.

Aside from garbled speech the only thing the Genesis ever outputs that annoys me is the whiny twang instruments that EA seemed to love. Not only do they sound bad on their own, but when they hold a note for too long they start to degrade even further. Fortunately we have better examples of guitar-like FM instruments in Genesis games like MUSHA, Target Earth and Lightening Force.
Actually the fan favorite "Metal Squad" song on Thunderforce 4 is one of my most hated songs on the genesis. It burns a hole through my ears, it's screechy, metallic and noisy. It's an example of why people hate the genesis sound. Songs like The Sky Line are what I love about TF4, that smooth jazzy sound with deep clear bass and warm flowing instruments. That flowing sound is something the SNES never really did.Quote:

Man I don't hear screechy instruments in there at all. Most of why I like that song is the lower instruments and the main line though. In emulation MUSHA and others hit ear splitting ranges a lot more than that tune does. I can't think of a good (bad) example of that twang instrument at the moment.
As for smooth easy listening sound tracks on Genesis, I usually look no further than Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Forgotten Worlds and Valis III.
