Thanks. Here is another. http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthr...nd-32-x/page14
If you feel like I went off topic (or whatever your reason was to make this thread) then ask Joe or Melf to put the posts in here and take them out of project y thread or others.
Even though I just continued "if project y does have voices, I hope it has clear ones" convo that was there before I even posted in topic.
Seemed more on topic than this.Quote:

Overall they are crappy. I don't know why can't we accept that on average Genesis samples were pretty crappy.
When we can count on one hand the number of Genesis games that had both good music and samples playing at the same time it is what is it.
For the most part I agree. *it is, what it is* The music is subjective though, but 25 Genesis (I made a list in one of those op links) games do have clear voices. But listen to sf or mk on snes, they are clearer. Pound for pound the snes voices were clearer it seems. (from the many games I played on both). I don't care the reason why (capcom and probe midway fault, different chips) at the end of the day most say snes had better voices.
They suggest music was better, but that's subjective. Then again the MD came out in 1988 and had a even older yamaha chip inside, while the snes had a 1991 chip. I'm not trying to bash the genesis voices, but for the most part, overall, they sounded crappy on avg compared to snes. There are exceptions though. The 32 x had voices come out of genesis clear as hell, dynamite h, others. So if I get into another Genesis voices are ALL crap debate, at least now I can show at least 25 examples of how that is wrong, but overall, yeah snes sounded better it seems. Good video the guys showed me here, although I found another. But that is only 1% of Genesis library that sounds very clear.
Listen to what she says at 5:34 to 5:40.

Also, that's how I can compare a couple of your negative complaining posts with my 3 pages of offtopic posts.

Genesis sound sucks, according to some perspectives, because other Console, Arcade, and PC hardware from the time had an easier to implement approach to sampled audio. Because of these views most people just will view Genesis audio as inferior and will persist that the SNES and PCE/TG16 was better, even if that doesn't show up in every game. Similarly, most Genesis games actually did have garbled samples due to bad timing or low bitrate or bad compression or all of the above. The explanation doesn't matter, and neither do the games, in these views that pronounce one approach absolutely superior to another.
I hear you, but most voices in games on the snes on avg seemed better overall.
Just in most peoples experiences who played both systems to death, that was the case. Maybe Sega should have explained how to do it better to other companies or maybe companies should have took more time into it.Quote:

Yep, like I said, the details don't matter. The fact is Sega sucks.
I wouldn't imply they suck. But I'm not just going to say games on Genesis voice wise sound better than SNES games on avg either just because Genesis was my favorite console ever. Maybe if more than 25 games out of 900 had very clear voices, this wouldn't be an issue. Not sure if you saw my other post, but do you have the sf2 beta rom that I guess sounds better ?
"Maybe Sega should have explained how to do it better to other companies or maybe (3rd party) companies should have took more time into it."
Sorry but these companies not sharing information seems odd. Give the proper dev kit, tools, info, tricks, etc.
If all genesis games had voices with the quality of Dynamite Headdy and Yu Yu hakusho, nobody would complain.
No the thing is the SNES games had better voices on avg. That don't mean Sega sucks or Genesis sucks or anything like that at all. And I was a huge Sega fan in 90s. Just because most of the voices didn't sound good, or anything else SNES seemed to do better, that don't mean I take it personal or be sarcastic because it doesn't show the Genesis with a halo over it.
Yeah if sf2 had better voices, most wouldn't complain about this issue as much or point it out more I agree and it was a huge game and some had it both for snes and md but when people heard md play "jaekplannnnnnaan" most muted their tvs. That's why I said companies should have done better. But 1% of your library not sounding clear with voices don't help. How many of the 900 or so Genesis games have very very clear voices. What 10 to 20 ? Regardless, the games reflected and it earned it's rep. I may be capable of hitting 100 3 pointers in a row, but if I make 1 out of a 100 then people correctly will say I sucked that day.
I haven't counted the entire Genesis and MD library ever, repetition makes my mind go away. I guess in this instance what I would be most interested to see is what percentage of the Genesis/MD library has any "voice" samples at all. Only then would I want to know what percentage of those voice samples were half the bitrate or sample rate or poorly timed compared only to older or current hardware.
That would include the SNES of course, because we love to give Nintendo special exceptions. ;)
I'm not giving Nintendo or SNES any special exceptions and I stated it's chip and the system itself came well after Genesis. Point is, they are the same generation and people compare them, people have ears and notice voices (in any kind of capacity) coming out of snes better than mds in most cases.
"As a result I have never heard a Snes game sound as clean and clear as a Genesis game (voice samples aside )."

On and on, but history is history.
Well 25 or so have great to good voices for md. How many have horrible voices ? I don't know exact number. But there are youtube videos showing examples. Anybody want to list the SNES ones ? So far sf and mk sound clearer on snes. Or let's just type dynamite and alien soldier over 2 snes ones. Okay, What's next.

The bottom paragraph says it all.

To be fair, how many SNES games have good voices too? Certainly not SF2, they're all cut up to hell.
You gotta look at the percentage of good voices in the total amount of games *with* voices, not the entire library, as not all games have voices.
Also the voices in UMK3 sound a lot better on the genesis. The SNES voices sound like every character is being stuffed with a pillow underwater.
I knew this thread was the SNES fault. I knew it!
I asked the same thing above basically.Quote:

The voices in the SF series on snes are better than md. Next.Quote:

I read that point when sheath typed it before. Then I did. The md games I listed have voices. Like I said, who wants to write the snes lists ? So 49% of those I listed have avg to great sound. People can add more games to the lists and figure a final % if they want.Quote:

What about the other games in the mk series where they sounded like they are coming out a broken casio keyboard on md ?Quote:

"tdooooeeeaasskkkyyyyyy" - md
"toasty" - snes
Yeah I saw that typed here many times probe this that midway, but regardless, we are talking how it sounded. Not who did what, or didn't, or dev kit or tools or info not shared, should of would of capable or not, just the outcome then.
Yeah you typed UMK3 twice, I see. "What about the other games in the mk series?". How is this a debate, the sf and mk series overall has better voices on snes. I made a list above, if you want to compare games, type some snes ones I typed over 40 md ones. I said what I had to say, now I'm just repeating myself. Argue with the OP he made the thread (to see us debate it to death). Just quote and alter my md lists then post snes lists.
Well, i'm not gonna play a bunch of snes games to find ones bad voices specifically (since PCM based hardware makes "good voices" the default), but I remember the voices in Wayne's world are horrible, I actually prefer the genesis ones. Grainier but a lot more clear too. There's quite a few examples like that. Earthworm Jim 1 is another (it flipped in 2, with the SNES now having the better ones). "It starts..." on the lion king sounds much better on the genesis, much clearer. The voices in Mickey Mania are also way better on the genesis, way way better.
Okay cool, if people want to dissect it they can. You can quote my list and make any adjustments then make a comparative snes list if you want, that is fine. Sounds like you got some good examples of md voices > snes.
Way too lazy for that. Plus there's really no point. The SNES had better voices overall, no contest. It's just that the whole "the genesis sucks at making voices" thing is a myth. It's just hard to program since the DAC must be fed manually by the programmer without relying on any timer (meaning cycle accurate code, stuff that was common on the C64, but not on a freaking 16bit system), and too many programmers at the time didn't really know how to pull it off, specially not while worrying about FM at the same time (which is why the music stops in altered beast and TF 4).
That is all I suggested.
Who said that though ?Quote:

Okay, so why didn't companies share info on how to do it ? Like did Sega properly explain it ?Quote:

Yeah I never said all md voices are bad (not saying you did) because I know there are gems, and I know there are great scores on md too, and music is subjective, so I never said md simply sounds like crap (voices + music + effects). Just the voices on snes for the most part sound better on avg, which it seems we all agree. But maybe we can show it's not that overwhelming. Hopefully there are some here who know off the top of their head 20 md and 20 snes or more great voice sounding games.

Are you a girl ? It seems you put your finger in your cunt in the project y thread, then rubbed your pussy when you made this thread, now you are dripping with these responses. I'm just sitting back and enjoying watching you do this to yourself. Anything else honey ? Hold on, I got some crack to smoke.
Please fag, don't displace your anger on me after you cut your inner asshole tissue with your thumb nail. Now your doing 2 kind of crack. We all know your being so anal about your ten million posts and multiquotes because of your constant asshole vibrations. Any thing to take the focus off of them, right? Those vibrations won't go away with your thumb. Neither will they from punishing your asshole by cutting it with your thumbnail. You're just gay. Accept it now instead of being destructive over yourself. Look at the guys from the Big Bang Theory. They are doing just fine.
Wow, is this necessary? Take it to PMs.
I thought trolling other members was against the forum rules anyway, much less being obscene and offensive.
No, it's just obvious by reading his posts, post 1 (reason why he made this thread), his fake quote of me, his "your on crack" comments the dude is too focused on me. Besides pathetic, it's weird. So I responded. I find it funny I saw him hovering in thread for 30 minutes last night after I wrote my is he a girl comment, but he didn't say shit until today and decides to finally post something.
No, I'm just direct. I directly addressed the situation in post 2 then responded to his nonsense in post 6 and 30. I reacted to his actions. Or didn't you read any of his posts ? Any more stupid assumptions on people you never met or know nothing about ? Still have that grudge, is that why you couldn't help say something here ? Oh well.Quote:
Wow dude, you have anger management issues.
Who made the thread and who initiated the insults ? Who is making fake quotes of me ? Who keeps lying about me ? It's not rocket science, I was reacting to his actions (which are obvious). I have no reason to PM people like that. Nice infraction to me, now read my reply.
This guy mentioned I somehow care about my posts. I don't care if I got 10 posts or 500 here, what is that guy talking about ? I'm sure his trolling of me is okay though right ? Yeah, all my fault huh ? Go ahead, reduce my posts from 500 to 10, I could fucking care less. So again phantom, wrong.
:pop::blah:
Words or actions, your choice. Don't see nobody knocking on my door, so yeah it's words.
Want to type shit, I'll react.
Want to fight, come to my house.
If that is what you meant. I'm eating popcorn too, look at how emotional everybody is just because I'm defending/reacting against this guy.
You both are going at it.
