Thanks. So Atari became Atari Corp and Atari Games, Atari Games was Tengen to Time Warner to Midway West then that was bought by Infrogames (?) then became Atari France which then spawned Atari US which is it's own company now, but Atari France is still around. So what happened to Atari Corp ? And I guess even though Atari named was owned by many companies by now, Atari US still has a link to original Atari (Games) ? I think co CEO of old Atari is now CEO of one of the new Ataris. I'll have to re check earlier posts.Quote:

tari, the company going under in 1995, didn't own Tengen. The review is wrong there. Atari Games owned Tengen, or rather, Tengen was Atari Games' publishing arm. Atari Games and Atari Corp. became separated back in the early 1980s, with the arcade division (Atari Games) being split off from the computer/console division (Atari Corp). It's Atari Corp. that was going under in 1995, not Atari Games. (Oh, Atari Games had needed a different name for home systems because they didn't have the rights to the "Atari" name on consoles, only for arcades. So, Tengen was the name they came up with.)
As for Tengen though, the Time Warner Interactive label replaced Tengen in 1995 because TWI had purchased Atari Games, and decided to use their label on the home system games. The studio is the same though, only the name changed. Other "Time Warner Interactive" games like Primal Rage are also of course by the Tengen people. Then in 1996 Atari Games was sold to Midway, so from that point on Midway's name is on the home system ports. Atari Games did keep using its own name in arcade games until 1999, though, when Midway finally switched them over to Midway Games West, and then finally closed the studio in 2003 (after leavin the arcade business in 2001).
So yeah, Atari (pre-1982 arcade games) is Atari Games is Tengen is Time Warner Interactive is Midway / Midway Games West. It was the same company, but their games were released under a bunch of different labels over time. And I didn't even get into the whole Midway/Williams/Bally thing...
