Zelda: Twilight Princess Delayed till after March 31st 2006

Nintendo's lone big Gamecube title for this fall/winter, Zelda: Twilight Princess, has been delayed till April 2006 AT THE EARLIEST. In other words this game won't be coming out until after March 31st, but a date has not been set. The game could even be coming out fall/winter 2006 or not even be coming out at all for the GC and instead being ported over to the Revolution.

I know there's a ton of Zelda fans crying right now, but since I'm not one of them this news only makes me laugh. If the Gamecube wasn't dead yet it pretty much is now as there is basically nothing besides a GBA to GC port of Fire Emblem & a Pukemon game to look forward to for the rest of this year on the GC. Personally, I don't see how Nintendo fans tolerate the droughts they saw on the N64 and now on the GC. If you're not multi-platform gaming, you're missing out.

damnit... well, I guess I can sell my GameCube, and get some Genesis games.

Odama, that Viewtiful Joe game, Battalion Wars, Chibi-Robo, Kirby, Naruto 4... no?

I have a nasty habit of always buying consoles at the very end of their lifespan. I can wait for Zelda but I wouldn't accept them switching it over to Revolution.

Is that, to you, a worthwhile line up for the rest of the year? If so that's great, but for the majority of people Zelda was to be thee last lone GC game worth getting excited about before the next-gen consoles came out. Now that will no longer be the case, and when Zelda finally does come out for the GC, if it does at all, it will be competing against 2nd Gen Xbox 360 games and 1st Gen PS3 games. Nintendo has practically assured themselves on losing out on the giant x-mas rush where the majority of money is made. None of those games you listed will be big system sellers, Zelda would have been.
The GC is about dead, delaying Zelda for quality reasons, while commendable, is practically putting a fork in the Gamecube.

P.S. If that list of yours was all I would have to play for the rest of the year I'd be one unhappy gamer.

I concur. There was little to look forward to on the GC this holiday season, and this just about seals it.

No biggie, I'll be too busy playing my shiny, new Xbox 360! :D

Wow, when the big N start dieing they go out worst then Sega... atleast the DC pumped out tons of stellar games.

I know I just said the big N dieing... but seriousily, it is, you all can see it can't you. Especially with this news of Zelda... really its just Nintendo siking up the GC to keep people playing and then at the last minute going "oh yeah, ermm that game we told you about that everyone plays with themselves over, yeah that one... well its not on the GC... we were just joshin."

Now people want the Revolution... thats all. The big N is playing there old tricks in a world that doesn't like it anymore. Why else did RE4 get ported to PS2! They are getting their just desert for the way they treated people back in the late 80's and early 90's.

I feel bad for the young gamers of today... the classics are leaving. I am so happy I don't buy new consoles anymore, I can't bare to watch this junk happening.

Uh, I was responding to a post that said "there is basically nothing", not a post that said "there isn't a worthwhile lineup".

I do agree with everything you said economically. I personally wasn't looking forward to Zelda in the slightest, having been burned by previous Zelda games, so I could give two shits. :)

Six games. That's about the same number as I have to look forward to on Xbox and PS2 each for the rest of the year. That's more than N64 ever had in any single year of its existence.

Maybe so but the 6 games to look forward to on the Xbox & PS2 are gonna keep selling consoles and keep ppl interested, at least until the 360 comes out.

As for the N64 am I ever glad I didn't get into that console till after it's demise as living through the hell that I've heard from Ninty-only fans is something I'd never put myself through since seeing what GC-only fans are going through is bad enough IMO; yet for what it's worth the N64 still sold way more than the GC has or ever will. I'm guessing alot of N-only fans wised up after N64, at least one can only hope.

Just because there console market is doing terrible does not mean anything for them. Didn't you know Nintendo makes WAY more money in the video game market then Sony does (it's true, go check it out for yourself)?



But this is totally a Revolution title now, I remember hearing that the Revolution will launch in March-ish.

Nintendo have shown a knack for amassing beautiful yearly bounty by this trick known as selling hardware at a profit. It's a neat maneuver, but ehhh....

..aside from brisk DS sales, Nintendo's getting significantly dogged by lackluster Gamecube and GBA SP performance. That's a shame, but sagging GBA sales are an inevitable byproduct of the DS backwards compatability, and the Gamecube's being sucked beyond the u-bend for obvious reasons. Consoles need GAMES, for the love of all that is holy. Nintendo relies upon the established franchises! Once those crap out, doom rides on swift wings.

If Zelda: Twilight Princess actually gets that April Gamecube release prophesized, it will be such an incredible waste of a game. Zelda can do far more for Revolution than it can for Gamecube at this point... But ohhhhhhhh my, if not for DS, the Christmas fallout would bring Nintendo to tears.

I really hope that with the release of Revolution, Nintendo at least make an effort to reclaim some of their shelf space lost and never returned during the N64 days. Anyone else wander into your favourite game retailer and shed a tear at the miniscule Gamecube shrine? There's a rental store in the city that still carries N64 games in favour of Gamecube. My god..

Nintendo killed themselves with carts as far as N64, and never had a chance with the GC both because of the PS2's near-monoply and the way Microsoft innovated while Nintendo did nothing to make themselves stand out against either of them. GC software, to top it off, was lacking as far as Nintendo themselves -- one could see this coming, as the Gamer's Radar article actually turned out to be true as far as Nintendo lowering dev times and pushing more software instead of making epic classics.

This did nothing, other than rob them of killer apps. Mario Sunshine is a shitty Mario 64 -- worse controls, worse camera, boring areas -- and the same can be said for games like Zelda and Mario Kart as compared to the work of previous gens (though MK hasn't been worth shit in my estimation since the masterful genesis of the series on SNES). The only two games from Nintendo, on any technical level, I love were made outside of Nintendo's traditional studios -- Metroid Prime came from Retro, and frickin' Sega gave me my most-loved GC game to date in F-Zero GX. Other than crappy ports that much of the time, without fgood reason, looked closer to the PS2 version than that of the XBox, what did the GC have to offer?

Oh, that's right, ports of Playstation games from the mid/late portion of the previous decade/century/millenium. Innovative.

I assume the new Zelda is just more of the same. Nintendo has not brought anything new to the table, or truly great, on any type of consistent basis since the N64 -- and of course, with that system they were basically the only ones doing this. GC somehow turned out worse in many ways, other than, for awhile, an abundance of quick ports.

EDIT: Oh, and I loved Pikman. Yippee. That's three. But at least that was truly in-house.

Zelda was sch eduled to help pull people away from MS, but seems like big N has nothing this christmas now that they have this delay.

Perhaps they're expecting to fall back on GBA & DS Sales. They have been quite profitable...

I always thought that this particular Zelda title was made for the express purpose of being "Nintendo's big game in 2005", so it's kind of surprising to see it delayed, on that level.

But it was just pointed out to me.. April is the beginning of the fiscal year. Perhaps Nintendo's outlook for next year isn't so good (for whatever reason), so they've got Zelda to soften the blow?

In other news, Chaos Field will be getting a surprise US release before the end of the year. The Cube port is meant to be significantly better than (and quite different from) the DC game, so I'm looking forward to it. Gamecube hasn't really had a great shooter to call its own yet.

Nintendo has clearly lost their touch in the console market.
There really isn't that much to look forward too, and I tend to try and support my Cube when I can.
But with the way console and software sales go, I can't really say that Nintendo is doing any better than sony.
