It sounds like they've had a strong following in Europe since the 80s.
I also forgot that Cassette ROM based games really caught on in Europe during the mid 80s.

the spectrums and all its follow ups were in production until 1992 i believe but dont quote me on that
i am in no way a spectrum expect
it is however one of the cheapest full functional computers there ever was especially at the time
and it has a huge software library ( 24,000 titles )
