while i usually dont care for the doom and gloom ongering surrounding nintendo's wii U ( which has problems )
and its total of 4,8 million sold is on the new console track ( ie slow while building its library )

This is definitely a bad idea imo. WHY would nintendo do this?
They're not skipping E3. They are simply having several smaller press conferences focused on more specific audiences as opposed to one big press conference where they try to address everyone at once. They will still be at E3 showing off their new games.

Honestly, E3 has lost a lot of importance over the years. I don't really see much of a problem with this. Nintendo Directs seem to be more effective at getting out news about new Nintendo games these days anyways. Even Sony and Microsoft are skipping E3 for their megaton announcements by having their own press conferences for revealing their new systems.
All E3 press conferences are good for is making Gifs.
Yeah, they'll be there. Just no big show. Which is fine, there's no one that's going to be there or watching online that will say "OOHHH That's what a Wii U is..." Everyone there or watching already knows. Nintendo is shooting for the people who don't know. Which won't happen at E3, but yeah, show off their new games coming out. I'm fine with that. Besides they'll probably be doing Nintendo Directs DURING the MICRO$OFT & SONY conferences. That'll piss them off real nice. See people in the audience looking at their iphones and ipads watching Nintendo direct while Micro$oft is showing off their 720. HA!
I think Nintendo isn't going anywhere. They'll do just fine like usual. Wii U was a bad choice of names (Especially after the Wii U-Draw game/tablet) Talk about confusing!

I don't think anyone would be upset if they change the name to SUPER Wii or anything else. No one got mad when AVGN changed his name!

The wii-u needs all the help it can get as far as I'm concerned. Nintendo had a SMASHING success with the wii, and left the other two consoles in the dust for a long time... even with that huge advantage, the wii still couldn't rally the kind of 3rd party support the ps3/360 could.
The wii-u starts off with every one of the wii's disadvantages, and almost none of it's advantages. It's not the cheapest, it's "innovative" controller doesn't have the same "pick up and play" appeal to non gamers as the wiimote... Nintendo needs to get people excited about it if it's going to be more than another console kept alive solely on Nintendo's first party IP... and ANY opportunity they can take to do that should be pursued.
Considering how well the last few E3s have gone over I'm not surprised they wanna skip this time.
The Wii U is a console that sold out to the early adopting loyalists, and is now slipping all over the place trying to find traction with either traditional gamers or the mainstream.
You have a company known to gamers that never pulls in 3rd party support, or offers the latest and greatest action or sports games. They never offer the full online experience. All they have is the occasional awesome and weird first party games that are a more predictable guilty pleasure than anything to brag about for fickle teenagers. Kiddie jokes still exist. A company that has sold the Wii as something new and revolutionary, and then they let consumers shelve it to collect dust because it offered nothing close to the amount of good software available on any previous Nintendo console.
New mainstream non-gamers who picked up the Wii as a casual entertainment toy, people who liked having it around so the young kids could do something different, they look at the Wii U and wonder why they should bother paying $300 for a Wii with a tablet. Why not play Wii? Why not throw money at an iPad if you want a tablet? It plays games too! Wow!
I was a Nintendo fan from the beginning, the way I see it is that I trust Nintendo to disappoint me more than anything else now. I trust that they have no idea what older gamers want, and will attempt to tell us what we want by throwing up recycled games that appeal to our nostalgia just for us to do their marketing work for them, and expose our kids to it's software.
