I think it was a good idea for the most part and had some great offerings. To see Nintendo actually offering imports of obscure gems like Doremi Fantasy, Sin & Punishment, etc. was the right way to go, but my only concern with it like with many downloaded purchases is the future and fate of VC. Regardless of whether I'll buy more from it in the coming future, I believe all my purchases made thus far have been in good taste. So who else has/is using it?
I used it for Super Fantasy Zone and Pulseman for those MD games I deemed I could not afford and for Doremi Fantasy just to have a copy to play that wouldn't cost me an arm, a leg, and a first born. I've mainly used it in other words for the pricier stuff, including the NES Ufouria game. Anything on there affordable, I'd just rather buy a cart, or did buy a cart of it for my NES. I'm also glad I didn't buy R-Type SMS on there (do have the TG-16 version and Ninja Spirit though) as I found a cart only copy a year ago.
They also have a decent selection of neo geo games on there.
I love the idea of legal emulation. My problem is emulation is not like the real thing. I love running stuff on the original hardware.
Honestly though, the emulation for Virtual Console titles seems to be pretty spot on for the most part. The only real issue I had was with StarFox 64 being a bit too Dark and the minor changes Nintendo made to it.

I got International Karate and IK+ for the VC back when I first bought my Wii,

Wii U Virtual Console (emulation) is quite nice. Especially on the gamepad. The resolution and "filter" gives it that old school tv feel, that I haven't seen with other "TV" emulation filters. It's really just a slight blur I suppose. But on the TV it's super crisp and clean. I prefer playing F-Zero on the gamepad rather than the TV.
Wii Virtual Console was kind of a joke. Other than NES games on the sideways wii remote. I hated the Virtual Console controller, especially for N64 games. And then playing SNES games, the 2 analog sticks really got in the way! But I can't wait to play them all on the gamepad. Much better feel for sure! Even on the Wii U Pro Controller!
I had no issues playing Super Metroid using the Wii Classic Controller Pro. And considering I was doing a lot of wall jumping, mockballing, shinesparking, etc. to do a lot of sequence breaking I'd say that says a lot about how well the controller works for SNES games.
I've had a hard time believeing that payed emulation on the Wii makes sense. I can download fusion and a rom of Pulseman and have the exact same experience as someone who downloaded it on the VC, but for free. I can see the appeal of playing games on the Wii U pad, but it's still hard to rationalize paying for something you could easily have for free.

Me too, but not with Virtual Console; too expensive, terrible features, no extras, and if you live in Europe, you're stuck at 50hz. No excuse for 50hz only in this day and age, none.Quote:

I've been spoilt by good collections, "illegal" emulation and excellent XBLA releases like the Monster World Collection to see past Ninty's pathetic effort.
yes some games are far too expensive
and i live in europe so we are locked in 50 hertz which is complete and utter bullshit in this day and age
but its a step in the right direction
and considering the ludicrous prices of some games on fleabay and the likes and then suddenly 10 euro for a n64 game ro 8 euro for a snes game looks more like a bargain then it really is
now sega how about you start porting saturn games eh ?

Not to derail the thread, but I also support emulators that strive for the best emulation possible for preservation of the video game medium. In my case, I own the games that I emulate, or download games that are extremely hard/impossible to obtain otherwise. Some games are from long gone companies with the only clear owners being the creators of the games, but are no longer being sold. These games and emulators are for personal use and are enjoyed under the bounds of Fair Use as well.
Once arcade and console games can no longer function, how will they be remembered for future generations? Not every great video game out there receives the re-release/remake treatment. I hope that one day, the historical, educational, technological, and artistic significance of this unique medium receives attention from the likes of museums. Maybe an evolved version of the library. The laws must be changed to allow archives.
A popular example: There is no exact port or re-release of the original Donkey Kong arcade game. The only ports in existence are homebrews for consoles. Otherwise, Donkey Kong must be played on MAME to get as close as possible to the original arcade game.
