Odd Sega CD Model 2 dilemma -- works without cover on

Well the title pretty much sums it up, however i'll elaborate more. Recently I hooked up my Sega CD model 2 to my Model 1 Sega Genesis, the Sega CD hadn't worked for me in a few years, so today I was tinkering with it and decided to lube the motor and sure enough that fixed that issue; the system now reads discs just fine... BUT without the chassis cover on... once I put the chassis cover back on, it won't read discs anymore. Any ideas on how to rememdy this? Thanks in advance. :cool:

Issue is fixed, thanks for all input on this matter.

Try reseating the ribbon cables and cleaning the Sega CD expansion slot.

Yup, I think I know what is wrong.

The rubber feet that hold the sled up have sunk and therefore the disc rests on the case. Just see if this is the case, put the disc in and see if you can turn it freely by hand.

If it is the issue, try putting some washers (say 1 under each of the rubber feet) and try it, if that doesn't work, add another and try again.

I fixed the issue, somehow the spindle that the CD rests upon was pushed a tad too far down into the motor, how this happend is beyond me. I pulled gently on it over the course of a few hours and it finally "snapped" back into place. Issue resolved. Now excuse me whilst I enjoy some Sega CD cheesiness. ;)

Ah, so close.

To be sure ideally the top of the cd spindle should be level with the motor shaft.

This problem happens a lot more often with the Jaguar CD, I think. (at least it's a very common problem on that platform, and one that can develop during shipping)
