So basically they are sort of Aping Uplay's "reward" achievement system, only making it more convoluted?

Uplay is Ubi's yes. The one reason I want to like it is because it's not a straight up steam clone, and follows the other DD stores path of differing themselves to compete. Unlike EA, which is literally just another store with nothing special to offer.

Go through those at least to start off and you'll see most of the time, the achievements don't give you much. Maybe a wallpaper, or an in game item or bonus. Other times like in Far cry 3 you can legitimately unlock DLC, or extra missions ect...

Most of those are fairly straight forward. Get or beat a certain part of the game and get Y. Nothing too big. But it's something.

Yea, but as I mentioned, I "want" to like it. But Uplay has so many other problems, on top of Ubi being real Dicks recently that I cannot deal with it just to get somewhat meaningful achievements.

They can have it. Still doesn't make me any feel any better that pretty much every game is steamworks nowadays, though I appreciate the service, it's still horribly annoying at times.
