So apparently a new Star Trek Card game came out on the iPhone App store which is a blatant rip-off of Triple Triad from Final Fantasy VIII:

Looking at the gameplay I have to say they look pretty darn similar:
I wonder if we'll see a lawsuit from this.

cant say i ever played triple triad though
couldnt be bothred to learn the rules and i mostly refined the cards in to items
But then everybody remembered that nobody played FF8 and all was well with the world.
You can't copyright "game play" - as long as the graphics and sounds and names are different, the game play can be an exact duplicate. This is well established law as far as games go, going all the way back to pong and the like.
That's not exactly true Chilly Willy. Do you recall the lawsuit Atari filed against Philips over the similarities between KC Munchkin and Pac-Man? While they lost the initial district court hearing, they won the appeal.

If you look at it, they said the audio and video were "too similar". As I said, as long as you don't copy the audio and video (don't be "too similar"), you're fine on the rest as many other lawsuits since then have shown.Quote:
