Super Metroid proves modern gaming is crap...

It's no secret to anybody that modern games are designed to appeal to the stupidest person in a group of morons, but has anybody ever stopped to think of what this is doing to us?

Well, Super Metroid was recently released onto the Wii U Virtual Console for 30 cents, for many people, including myself, it is our first time playing. There's a dark side however. The following images are not photoshopped, and have come straight from Miiverse.

I want to point out this article because I am Grey Nemo, the one who got stuck in the Save Room. I did not actually get stuck, I was making a joke about how other people were getting stuck.

Those posts are 100% Legit. The "Why can't Metroid Crawl" guy was being dead serious, he actually thought the characters name was Metroid.



I have never been more ashamed to call myself a gamer. This is just pathetic. I hate to sound all elitist and pompous, but this is what modern gaming has done to us, turned us into morons.

This is why I will forever swear that older games are better. I'm so sick of every video game having to be a cinematic michael bay explosion fest. Give me Mega Man over Skyrim ANY day of the week.

I'm 21 years old, and I really wish games would be go back to the way they were.

Really? REALLY? "I have never been more ashamed to call myself a gamer." Because kids of unknown age (could be 3 for all you know) couldn't make it far in Super Metroid, you are ashamed to call yourself a gamer. Yes, most Video Games today are more cinematic, easy, and have a lot more instructions, that can't be denied, but you're completely blaming the kids for this, while they probably all found out how to pass by now, probably by themselves, but you won't even give them a chance and decided to rant about it and insult all these kids and the Video Games today.

And why do you need to say "Those posts are 100% Legit"? We, or at least, I never had any doubt those were real, want to know why? Because they're just kids.

Oh, and swearing older games are better? Here's the thing, normally I wouldn't say something like this, but that's your opinion. I too much prefer older games, but that's because I'm not really into the type of games that come out today, while some of them CAN be rather difficult and of high quality, there's tons of great and original games that come out on Steam nowadays.

I'm 15 years old, and I don't care at all about how the younger players are at games like Super Metroid, because they're playing these games at all.

now these days your eased in the paddeling pool with no sharks to speak off and so many flotation devices the water is damn near invisible

Yes, I too get massively angry and disgusted at people getting stuck in old games. Truly there is no greater horror in the world than this.

I actually had these pictures sent to me over messenger yesterday by a friend. Giving the benefit of the doubt, I asked if you get a scanned copy of the instruction manual when you purchase the game. My friend said yes you get the manual too.....so there's really no excuse. The gaming world makes it too easy for people to cry for help about anything. It's absolutely true that games these days are extremely dumbed down. I remember the first versions of dumbed down games where you'd press one button on a controller and watch your character execute a long and very complex sequence of attacks. This was back in the day where if you wanted your character to do something complicated involving multiple attacks, the controller sequence would be equally as complex. I fully expect gaming in the future to be as such: You start the game quickly followed by getting a skill testing moment of hitting the right button. If you manage to press the correct button, you watch the character auto play through the entire 4 hour game and beat it for you.

this is at least the second if not the third time you do this

The problem isn't that new/casual gamers get stuck in Super Metroid. We all got stuck at various places in this game when we played it in 1994. The problem is that they get stuck at some very random/obvious/easy to figure out places.

Also, Metroid is a non-linear game about exploration. You are supposed to get stuck. You are supposed to be lost at some points. And you are supposed to use your brains in order to overcome this. Also, being lost is a part of the atmosphere. Its not a fluffy, happy family game. If you can't get lost in a game like this, it means its badly designed. But it seems to me that most people today don't can't even realize this thing. Its way above their heads as they are used to hand holding and things like pointing arrows, shining objects and instructions through the whole game. In the end most people treat games like movies.

So, the first thing that comes to their mind when they get stuck for a microsecond is to search for a solution immediately in forums, guides, miiverse etc. As if using your brains is not an option in gaming. Heck, Super Metroid isn't even that hard.

This game is not about navigation though. You don't get stuck because you don't know where to go and you have to explore/memorize/observe. In this game you get stuck because the enemies rape you. Its a different kind of difficulty. Super Metroid is a very easy game in this regard. Ghost and Goblins will frustrate them but they will realize that they just don't have the skills for it. Super Metroid just confuses them. They don't die but they still can't advance. They simply can't realize that you have to use your thinking and logic to do it, because they never used it in modern games. Its above their heads.

People got stuck or lost in Super Metroid back in the 90's too. I really don't see what the deal is.
