If you have a SEGA CD. You can download the SEGA CD version off of Sonic Retro and burn it to a disk. Thats what I did.
I play it on the everdrive md but the save feature is fucked up.
Definitely play the Sega CD version. The Genesis version is riddled with slowdown and somewhat shitty level design. The SCD version punishes you a lot less for playing the game like it wants you to play it, although it seems like there are more potentially game-breaking glitches you need to look out for (Starry Night has some walls that are easy to get stuck in).
I really hope they finish this thing at some point, preferably sooner rather than later (supposedly they are still working on it). The relatively miniscule amount of new stuff they've shown since the last release looks awesome. This should be the greatest hack of any game ever when it's done.
Is the latest CD version Sonic MegaMix v4.0b ? I think it is, but I'm not burning a CD if it's unfinished and glitched.
"Latest release (Sega Mega CD)
Due to a (very) temporary cancellation of the project, the latest release was made in an incomplete state, and as such, contains various issues ranging from minor to major, which can possibly hinder gameplay under certain circumstances. This is far from an ideal release, and the authors do not claim it to be one. To play a "complete" version, please wait for the next release, or see version 3.0 for the Genesis."
The Genesis version is plagued with slowdown like Assman said, but it's still buggy as hell. Contary to what Sonic Retro says, the CD version (4.0b) is far more stable and includes a ton of extras. Both versions have bugs, the CD version is just more complete and recent.
I love the homing attack , why can't sega make sonic games like this!
Ha yeah I think MegaMix's homing attack was based on Sonic's similar attack in Sonic Adventure and later games, so it did come from Sega in the 3D games.
I always thought it was awesome that they took his move from the 128-bit Dreamcast and translated it onto the Genesis.
Does anyone know if they're still working on the new build? It looks awesome

STILL ALIVE

A lot is happening in the lives of Team Megamix. Each member is dealing with their own personal circumstances, including but not limited to moves and major job opportunities. This has put Megamix on hiatus, but we're far from finished. Be patient; we want this as much as you do
This game looks fantastic! I can't wait to see what the final version will look like! Great job thus far! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v3...c_thumbsup.gif
Looking forward to a complete Sega CD version! I'll give this version a try. Maybe we can help with bug and glitch reports!
A more recent build of Sonic 1 Megamix was leaked a while back, just found out about while searching through hack videos. It includes all new bosses, redesigned stages and proper native CD audio.

Grab it here (it's not on the official site, the earlier 4.0b one is the latest there). Enjoy.
My most recent ex.gf loved sonic1
This is pretty bitchin'. It's a shame the project has been marred by drama like all things relating to the Sonic fan community but at least work on it is still slowly proceeding. It's amazing what a group of dedicated fans is capable of in the absence of competence from actual IP holders.
I don't really go nuts for hacks very often but they're really cooking up something special with this one.
So you were like, "screw you Sonic 2 is better," and that was the end of the relationship? ;)
Whenever I came into the Special Stage the music stops and afterward the game hangs up when I will leave it. Does anybody experienced that too?
Game stops whenever Sonic gets killed and goes back into the Bios-screen. Maybe it runs flawlessly on emulators?
Edit: Level 3-1 is 95% incomplete and not playable.
V5 has really potential and shows awesome new stuff but as the programmers said: If you want to play a whole game stay with V4 or even V3.
It's an unstable build. You're going to run into problems like that. The game isn't finished yet.
If that game would be finished it would be the No.1 of all Sonic Hacks for sure.
It's just my eyes or they really improved the special stage's framerate?
It's a bug(?)fix first discovered by Christian Whitehead for his Retrosonic based Iphone/Android ports of Sonic 1. Recently this code was rediscovered by Cinossu:
and here's the IPS patch by Barone: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showthr...l=1#post668170Quote:
Before people start going insane over this, let me explain exactly what was done to achieve the smooth Special Stage:
Step 1: Remove one line of code; andi.b #$FC,d0 from SS_ShowLayout.
Step 2: Build, run and enjoy.
Yup, one line. That's it.
They're still working on it, yay (new teaser)!
Also, here's a message from Stealth on the matter of the leaked build and the current development status:

This should rule all when it's finished assuming anyone actually lives to see that day.
Mighty can use the walljump. F**king finally.
