How pokemon blue actually is an rpg to me.(and other stuff)
As a kid growing up I loved earthbound. When I was finished with this great rpg I was left with no sequel at the time.
Then pokemon comes out and I remember the only reason I bought it was because of this:

Now to my 15 year old mind that screen shot with the kid on the bike looked strikingly earthboundish.
Then the on caption of the lower screen shot it states its compatible with the supergameboy for snes.
Another plus for me as I didn't have a Gameboy at the time.
So I bought it needless to say, then I had a Nintendo power with a pokemon comic at the end of the issue, the one that had the advertising for the card game at the end.
it showed basic pokemon info and what was in red but not blue ect.
But what really caught my eye was the article inside the comic/guide about mew.
Now I knew I wasn't going to win or be anywhere near an event that gave these mews away, so I just said to myself "so much for catching them all".
Fast forward a few weeks, Im at k-mart shopping for school and I see a bargain/markdown rack, being a kid I started looking for toys and stuff that I might be able to get my mom to buy for me.
That's when I seen an unpackaged game genie for Gameboy, minus the book and instructions. I kept digging and came up with the rest of the packaging.
Then I had an issue, now my mom is not video game illiterate and she is pretty smart so she says "but we don't have a Gameboy".
Damn she was right....now mind you I had no idea what I was gonna do with it or that it would work, or actually make "catching them all" a reality for me, so I did what any other kid my age would do, I lied.
I said "yeah but we DO have a supergameboy and it has to work on that".
Clever very clever...... ... she bought it.
Now I had the pressure on me. Would it actually work?
When I got home I took to trying it out.....it didn't fit......crap.....how can I redeem myself if it doesn't even fit?......
well I took drastic measures......it seemed the only thing preventing the marriage of the supergameboy and game boy game genie was the case....
so I disassembled the game genie down to the board and switch...
crammed it in the super game boy and down the throat of my snes....
hit power and what did I get?.....no game screen and the buzzing uhh uhh.....
then I was about to come clean and tell my mom I was a liar but as I was starting to put the game genie back together I noticed why it didn't work.... there was a plastic piece that lined up the chip and I didn't use it...
well with help of that plastic piece I got it to work....
And eventually found codes to catch any pokemon with exeption of mew....
I used every combination of code there was to see which one was mew,
and as this was before I knew about misingno I began to document each new pokemon I caught. I eventually found the code for mew and to this day I still have a pokemon blue cart full of mews. I think I was the first kid to ever make this happen.
while everyone else was trying to push a truck....I had mew and could send them on any goose chase I wanted.....then tell them it was a lie....and just give them a mew I had....good times.....I still have the composite book with all my data on this.
Not that it mattered once I got Lunar for ps1.
