Hey everyone at s-16!
Today, I got accepted to study at Keio University in Tokyo, Japan for the 2007/2008 school year!! I also was awarded a full ride scholarship to pay for tuition, room, and board!! Wow!! I can't believe it!
Will this be the first time we have a s-16 staff writer living in Japan? I can't wait!!!!
Congrats! Be sure to go to Sega of Japan and give everyone there a swift kick in the nuts. They sure need it these days. The latest Sonic game is less fun than diarrhea.
OH SNAP! Have a wonderful time in the land of the rising sun, and as I'm sure hijinx are bound to ensue, you have to keep us all posted.

What are you studying?
I'll be there from 3/21 through 4/19.
unfortunately I won't be buying as many video games as would have liked. I'll save that for next year. I'll be looking for work in the place I see this year that I like best.

Teaching is about the only decent job a foreigner can get in Japan, from what I hear.
TheGZeus, why yes I do understand Japanese! Or at least some, I have not been studying as long as you, I'm finishing up my second year of studying it at western michigan university. I want to become a teacher as well!
I'll find out the specific clases soon I think, but I plan on studying a heck of a lot of general japanese language, and the more classes I can take about the culture, the better.

I may have done it all myself, but i HIGHLY recommend taking lessons of some kind!
i know SHIT for kanji. I'm only learning any now because i'm studying Chinese as well....and Irish... I'd like to re-learn the German I forgot....
my suggestions: MAKE FRIENDS WITH PEOPLE WHO LIVE AT HOME!
Also, join a club at the university there. The more you are forced to interact with people in a normal Japanese environment the more you will actually learn.
I'm currently occasionally checking the ESL homework of an 11 year old from Japan I'm tutoring. Like, I'm talking to him while I type. using the neighbor's Wi-Fi.
There are alot of Japanese people in Woodbury MN, most of whom come from Sumitomu 3M to work with...3M...yeah...
Also a few people from Subaru/Polaris.
Working for free pays off, i'm only paying for hotels like 2 weeks of a month!
