Ive never thrown a controller ever, or any kind of useful electronics for that matter. ( Im not counting that cheap Chinese knockoff cell phone that just would not work right. )
I have never thrown a controller.
However a friend did pull out a knife once and carved "SUCKS" into our other friend's Playstation controller. That was fantastic.
Not that I disagree or having it out for Sony - as at that time I had totally lost interest in games;
but I think it was just one of those moments where you knew you were about to witness some sort of accident unfold but were too fascinated about watching it happen to actually do anything.
Back when the 2600 came out kids weren't medicated like they are today. In some regards people were more intense back then. Pinball was a very physical experience where players shook and smacked the machine. It was commonplace for people to punch the glass or otherwise smack an arcade cabinet when they met defeat. Kids got beat (spanked) at home as a standard form of discipline. It was a different time back in the 2600 and NES days.
Controllers now-a-days aren't going to take a licking and keep on ticking like they used to. I can't imagine someone throwing a Wii tablet or DaulShock3 etc.
Assface: Someone who either A) does something to piss you off or B) does something stupid. C) Someone who carves "sucks" into controllers they do not own.
Seriously, If I had a "friend" who did that to something I owned, that friendship would stop right there. It's not about games, its about respecting your friend's stuff.
This is why I like big arcade controllers. Not for throwing, but if you lose and go aggro, then the controller can take a beating.
I can't throw controllers, I don't consider them disposable. Probably because I tend to buy good quality controllers, so I know that it isn't the controller's fault.
Give this a toss... Instant chaotic fun for the whole family!

I can't recall ever throwing one . . . maybe dropping one in disgust or frustration, but not throwing. I know my brother has thrown them down (very rarely across the room . . . part way at least), but we've never broken or even cracked a controller that way AFIK, probably in part due to carpeted flooring. :p
I smashed a Mega Drive controller due to Another World once. It was my own, of course. Though I mastered the game eventually
and it's still one of my all-time favorites. Memories... One of my best friends was at my house when I smashed it and he still brings
it up every now and then for a good laugh, because he knows how impatient I can get when playing a game. Haven't done it again,
I think.
I have tossed a controller here and there just to leave the room faster after getting frustrated with something, but smashing to a point of breaking no. My consoles are usually close to the floor level and a controller if dropped or thrown down would just hit carpet. There is the other side of the action where being so close to completing something and failing then pulling the controller from the port causing your console to fall can be escalate the frustration more..but really you are the dumbass that just did it. ;) just place it down take a break and don't kick the dog.
