Or, we could just buy the system that has the games we like. Who gives a shit about who made the hardware if it has a respectable library.
There is no point in Sega making a game console because they have none of the talent left to make 30-50+ exclusive games themselves for it. There is no point in hoping for Sega to return to what they were because we know thanks to interviews, such as with Yu Suzuki, that Sega, like Capcom and most other companies, won't make a new game anymore. They will only make games with marketing research to back it, that predicts the game will sell above and beyond the development cost. Hence sequels in familiar genres and franchises. There would be no point in putting these on a Sega made platform.
no not really
the market is overcrowded anyway and sega would dissapear in the market such as it is
im happy with the sega console si have
i just wish sega would release more of their 90's games
The old Sega is dead and the talent is gone. I wouldn't favor a new Sega platform over any other, unless it had games I want to play on it.
I don't want Sega to do it because it would obviously break them and developers would see almost no incentive. There's already Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, Google, Apple, PC-Steam/Desura/Origin, and even Ouya to release games on. Console hardware doesn't matter anymore.
This.
Gaming, as the Art it used to be IMO, is pretty much dead in the mainstream industry. You may see something here and there, some cool kickstarter efforts and such, but the golden age of gaming has long gone IMO, so, uh, I really don't wish any new console. I just wish I had "unlimited" money to keep improving my own retro gaming setup and possibly open an '80s style arcade room where people could play real old arcade games for free, 24/7. :p
I think a lot of speculation is often generated by overly-dedicated fans who have a certain nostalgic anticipation of Sega to reenter the hardware scene and rekindle some long disputed or unresolved rivalry with Nintendo while usurping Sony and Microsoft. Like it or not, it's just not going to happen.
The landscape of the video game market has changed too much since 2001; Sega no longer has the personnel or means, monetarily, to develop a new console. Also, the home titles they have available to them isn't enough to support such an endeavor - many of which have already been leased out or many years forgotten.
Right down to it - It's too great of an investment and Sega is better off on the sidelines, after losing so much credibility and consumer trust, Sega has struggled too much just to stay relevant; and personally, I think this is the last generation for the home console.
However for the sake of conversation, rather than the string of one-shot complaining GKDAIR threads I've been noticing lately: Yes, I'd be totally psyched to see Sega launch a new console.
Oh, they aren't hacks, they are the epitome of what a corporation is just like Microsoft, Intel, Nvidia, Apple, etc. I recently learned the true definition of what a "not for profit" company is for and the only distinction between it and a corporation is that its main purpose is to benefit the community/industry/whatever it is in. I have been quite incorrect over the years in complaining that some game companies were solely focused on profits and not on creativity. A "good" corporation is solely focused on profits, a bad one that fails focuses on something else.
Even if Sega came out with their own new console it would just be an XboxOne/PS4, just with a different logo on it.
Sega would apply the same fucking business attitude that MS and Sony have, so you'd get DRM's and expensive DLC's, stupid online plans, etc.
just stick a Sega sticker on your xbox and lie to yourself, you won't notice the difference.
Can't we just remember sega for what they were and not have them become a big corporate asshole amongst all others you might find on the market today?
I would not want to see native facebook support on a sega device, the horror |:
completely untrue. the beauty of sega consoles has always been the kickass exclusives and everyone knows that when sega hardware is out sega always pulls out all the stops in creating new games. when was the last game ala jet set radio we saw from microsoft? uh.. never. I can at least give some props to sony for sticking their head out with original games like heavy rain and little big planet for instance. microsoft has nothing and nintendo hardware has been a joke ever since the wii
