As for your track, i haven't recognized it but can i ask if it's from a Turrican game? Your "clue" looks like something from a computer game of the era...
Sounds to me like something done on the USA or Europe, using GEMS.
Its from Universal Soldier, music track 01. The clue gave it away, hehe, I hate those darned flying things.
Called Mr Walker & His Factory in Turrican 2, sounding way better than on UniSol. Does this track even play during the whole UniSol game, or is it only in the music test?

Sega Retro -
Universal Soldier is an action game released for the Sega Mega Drive in 1992. It is an interesting creation, as it is essentially a reworking of Factor 5's Turrican II with branding from the 1992 Universal Soldier film. Though the game was sold in stores, it was not licensed by Sega.
Universal Soldier replaces the three shoot 'em up levels in Turrican II with three new levels of standard gameplay with completely different sets of graphics and using the same music the discarded levels had. Aside from that and a reordered sequence of the levels, the gameplay in the whole game is left mostly intact. Ports were later made to the Game Boy and SNES, though the latter was not released officially.

Not quite as good when compared to other games in the series, but if it was in another game game / series the OST may have been received with more appreciation. All very subjective I know.

This game is a piece of crap, but the music is great and it was Jesper Kyd's first work on the Genesis.
While the Konami VRC6 has been huge in the ChipTune, and covers/remix scene, there were only three officially released games that used it. Here are links to all three, as well as to the 2A03-only version of the only one of these games to also come out in America (I will want to know whether you prefer the US 2A03-only version, or the more advanced VRC6 + 2A03 Japanese version):

He said that he didn't know about the "bassy noise" mode, if he did he'd have totally used it. Apparently most musicians had no idea you could do it.
Those Game Boy tunes are great, thanks, retro nick. I love the fresh take on that trademark fuzzy GB bass.
It's also really striking how similar the NES and the SMS rendition of the swamp tune sound. The NES version does have that mighty snare drum that the SMS just can't replicate, though.
I would have loved to hear Alberto whip something up on the C64. While the SID can sound amazing, some of its tunes were a bit too heavy on the fuzzy sawtooth.
Speaking of the SID, looks like this was finally YouTubed. For some reason, the homebrew port of Chu Chu Rocket to the Atari ST features digitized SID music. Not really sure why, but it's still the most badass chiptune I know.
