Matt Furniss created one of the most sublime tracks for ResQ. It truly feels like the game is saying "farewell player". I find this so moving, and think that it sounds so rich, and expressive, that it could have been on an 80's film score, and no one would notice that it was a game chip(s).

Here's a favorite of mine that may not too technically impressive, but shows the versatility and range of the SID. The composition is fairly nice, too, and boasts some fairly neat conterpoint.
The game it's taken from may not be the best or most popular one out there, but it's still one of the few ones I actually spent money on back then and didn't get for free from some schoolmate/relative. :D
OK, I kinda regretted the impulse purchase, but at least the game had great music.

Yeah remember that Konamis arcade hardware from the time used FM based soundchips, similar to the Mega Drives, thats why so many tracks sound more at home on the MD ports than on the SNES ones. And Konami just had musicians that were really good at composing music for FM soundchips, their original stuff on the MD was really good too. Here is my slowly growing tribute to VG music - my own VG music podcast! How original, huh? Format is a bit of babble intro & outro about the games, then a solid 30-40mins of selected (and often mixed) tracks. I make these for myself really, to have a convenient set of my favourite tracks available in one playlist. I try to avoid some of the most commonly covered games, but I'm certain to break down at some point and cover some just blatantly obvious stuff like Mega man, sonic etc, because as I say, I like having my own playlist available.
