I'm extremely pumped about the retron5

Is anybody else as pumped as I am for this thing? Hyperkin is putting it out, supposedly at the end of the summer, and it looks fantastic. For those who don't know, it's one console that plays genesis, mega drive, nes, snes, famicom, super famicom, gb, gbc, and gba games. Hyperkin is claiming 100% game compatibility. It's going to have controller ports for each of the system, as well as two wireless controller ports. Is also going to have hdmi output.

The concept sounds great. They've also announced that the console will support 10 save states for each game. I for one am quite excited to drastically cut down on the amount of wires hanging to my tv.

If the price isn't too high and it's reliable, then I might try it out. The concept sounds convenient. Does it work with original controllers?

From what I read, it will support original controllers. It will also allow you to use any controller for any game. Ie, if you wanted to play genesis with an snes controller or vice versa, you could.

I guess it's cool as a back up or all in 1 (almost) retro device, but isn't it just what I said in previous post or no ?

To be honest, I really couldn't care less. If I want convenience over authenticity I'll just emulate all of my older stuff on the Wii (or maybe my Xbox if I get around to modding it).

I was thinking this was just another shitty clone, but then I got to looking at that link. Holy cow, if this is as bad ass as they're claiming it's going to be then I'm all over it. HDMI output FTW. It reminds me of BITD when kids would write gaming magazines asking if there was ever the possibility of a console that could play every system's games. Now 20 years later here it is. :D Now if there was only a way it could play SegaCD games.

also these consoles are getting on a bit and sooner or later they will start to be thin on the ground

I wouldn't jump on any new clone Hyperkin comes out with just yet. Since the RetroN3, they've pretty much had several controversial releases and updates:

-RetroN3 Version 1 is released, Hyperkin promised Castlevania III compatibility and a better NOAC than what was in the FC Mobile II (which was already quite good to begin with) and instead delivers a console with a shit NOAC, no Castlevania III compatibility and a NASTY wiring error on the cartridge slot which is more typical of Yobo Gameware Famiclones with shit NOACs
-SupaBoy is released, has a nasty problem with a squealing noise out of the speakers which persisted in some replacement units
-RetroN3 Version 2 is released, Castlevania III compatibility has been added, but Super NES audio has become EXTREMELY loud with nearly zero bass and an insane amount of distortion which renders many games unlistenable
-RetroN2 is released, turns out to be no better than a Yobo Gameware FC Twin (and in some aspects, WORSE than the FC Twin)
-RetroN3 Version 3 is released, Castlevania III compatibility has been REMOVED and the Super NES audio problems persist (what a f***ing huge amount of fail)

After all this crap, I'm reluctant to say anything positive about Hyperkin clones, but I'm genuinely interested in seeing the RetroN5 in action. This is not gonna be based off discrete hardware or NOACs and GOACs like every other hardware clone minus AtGames' garbage software emulation-based Geniclones, though I do wonder what Hyperkin means by this statement:

Does this mean they're using an FPGA? That "hardware emulation" sounds like an FPGA to me. Though that should be termed "FPGA simulation" as "hardware emulation" can be taken in several different ways.

Why are you so defensive? I was only speaking for myself.

Also, while this isn't entirely directed at you because it's only a small portion of your point, personally, I don't give a crap if downloading games that I own and are no longer available is considered piracy in the US. Not only are there, and have been some terrible laws, but the US government doesn't even follow its own laws half the time, not to mention international laws such as the Geneva Conventions.

im not being defensive i am merley explaining my point of view

i generally dont like or care for piracy and emulation its real games and real hardware or nothing for me

however real hardware will sooner or later be thin on the ground they will stop working and get tossed out and there is only a finite amount of them around
my md 2 is 20 years
sooner or later it wil stop working and sooner or later it wil become harder and harder to find a working one

so if an oppertunity arises where i can play my orginal games on "clone" hardware be it emulated or not then i am interested

Just wait until Classic Game Room reviews it to see if it's worth a purchase as a back up console. Post 11 explains why. The sound could be horrible (as md clones usually are).
