A new sega is more than possible

The title was changed by clumsyorchid for a reason because the topic basically was about a sega console discussion anyway so lemme copy paste what i said there. and see if u are still encouraged to think of a perfect plan.

i call these the 10 commandments of sega
ofcourse there are subcommandments. and ill leave that to u guys.

Hello my fellow sega owners and friends in this biz.
id like to talk about this topic even tho it is a topic talked about over and over again. and also some people even gave up or are fed up. in wors case some of us dont even want a new sega console.

what i want to bring in this topic is more then wanting a new console. i want to convince anyone that it is easy and more then possible. even with the budget of sega. and lets be honest even tho it is a hard time. sega surely isnt poor. more over they are filthy rich.

so here goes. please pay attention cause i am not talking retarded.

1. to make a sega console sega must not battle ps3 or xbox or wii etc. it should not even focus on battling them. it should create a hardware with only exclusives back to back. while at the same time it could easily stay loyal and bring games out to other consoles and promising not to put those games on her own sega console.
this is loyalty and it gives difference.

2. sega must not focus on sales in large. it could make only 100.000 units in whole europe. and everytime it solds out it will create another 100.000 units. so the sales dont drop and there is no force. this same console must bring a fair amount of good games such as phantasy star etc. and it must be loyal to bring ONLY exclusives. this gives the console a rarity of games which makes it attractive to all people. by only bringing 100.000 units at a time alo creates a greed and a wishing list wanting the sega console so bad.

3. the console has to be really cheap. and really cheap yet at the same time have many options such as internet etc. this is easily obtained. (and if the internet and console brings success) then the hardware will be sponsored by google or anyone interested. but at all times all will be payable.
a wlan is not expensive and it doesnt necessarily need n draft. g draft internet works just fine.
also the console must bring a game with it which makes the public jerk of.
i mean they did sonic with megadrive and it worked like a charm

4. sega must make more commercials. they dont have to be so dumb like sony has. but just a small 3 seconds of sega brainwashing in a frequent way. every channel 8 times a day 3seconds commercial will do good. sega should avoid the expensive hours like when there is soccer on tv etc.

5. sega should not be greedy to be on itself . so if apple wants to add herself in like some addon iphone use on a sega console.(combination) this is good for the sega and also for apple.

6. sega following all the steps above. and having a good salesmarket. salesmarkets dont mean anything if they work for money. they have to love sega. therefor im happy sega fired many men.

7. sega needs to bring back the old school yujinaka and such and stop being arogant forcing herself to bring sonic games out while in fact they are not as they used to be. they have to understnd that the sega fans rather have a bluraycd full of sonic zones with the snic and knuckles sprites rather then playing sonic 4 ep 1 and 2 with small levels.

8. they have to promise that the console they bring out will at least live 10 years
and like i said even if the other console surpass them over time. loyalty in this case is the best policy.
(NO ADDONHARDWARE)
segamegadrive had 65prcnt of the market. but lost all of it with the addons and lesser commercials and disloyalty while snes as much as i hate it kept it with the snes. but at least they kept giving games and the loyalty was there. so the message is keep bringing even if it is for a small community.

9. if the orders get overordered. like being sold out 100.000 units is not enough anymore then sega should still stay carefull. and it could by months think of adding instead of 100.000 make it 200.000. ofcourse all with precaution.
it shouldnt think in millions. but in loyalty

10. the last step is that sega should be one with the fans. there should be a website made for fans and fans can give suggestions. a close communication between one another.

Agree with you 100%.

Your idea is not financially viable at all,you cannot develop a library of exclusive games on a system that your only planning on doing production runs of 100k at a time as well as promoting all this with commercials.

Developing a new system and developing games costs a lot of money,they aren't going to invest so much money into something to make fans happy,im not even going to bother ripping apart your whole idea just let the dream die,sega are not coming back with a new system,time to move on.

but ouya made it possible with 8 million. now i know its a tiny dumb thing but considering 8million having a console

and consider that sega sometimes spend millions on games

why not make a console in research.
they do have linbergh

why not evolve something out of that?

The reason why OUYA made it possable with 8 million was due to they didn't ask for that much, the hardware already existed, software for said hardware already existed, they literally had to put forth 0 research and development to get it operational.

because there is no market for it !

the ouya is a android machine

the market is already saturated with machines
there is sony ms nintendo the upcoming steam box the nvidia shield
the droid ecosystem
the ios ecosystem

and if apple and google actually turn their eyes towards gaming seriously they can crush almost everybody standing in their way sans microsoft

its impossible in this market for sega to eke out a niche for themselves thats even borderline profitable

Sega will never release another console.....ever! Sega's console business died with the Dreamcast. As far as Sega in concerned, David Rosen was right all along and Sega should have stayed away from the console business to begin with.

1. SEGA's BIGGEST assets during the CSK years, was CERTAINLY its brilliant 1st party talent. SEGA had something other Arcade giants didn't have: "excellent in house software making talent". They certainly exercised this talent, but at what cost? I totally agree with every point. Seeing that SEGA lost alot of that in house talent after CSK went under in 2001, and that until 2009, SEGA developed mediocre garbage from lazy outsourced development studios(Colonial Marines was the last of it). SEGA needs to channel their creativity and energy that their experimenting on PCs and mobile games into their own platform. This is the key to bringing back the glory days of SEGA's legendary library.

2. Niche home consumer platform is DEFINITELY something SEGA can do. Even as Sega Sammy, they weighed the option with "Kids Pad" a couple of years ago. What I don't understand is why people keep overlooking this? Why do they ignore this when a smaller company like SNK did pretty damn well doing it and WHEN 3DO was able to execute it successfully for a while. I have EVERY reason to believe SEGA is still considering some niche home consumer product business platform(which makes perfect sense since everything SEGA keeping filing regarding home hardware keeps mentioning "Tablet devices for use with TV Screens". Selling said high end Tablet console would be very easy to do, nichewise. Hell with the right,pricing,budget,execution and B.O.M. SEGA could become VERY successful with a Tablet console. One of SEGA's best assets as a hardware brand was the conservative silicon policies they had regarding 1st party hardware. They ALWAYS spent more on Arcade machines and balanced out their home consoles with a stern budgetary plan. SEGA could build something from just a mid range budget without spending too much, is just that by the late 90s, they were running out of cash.

3. SEGA could easily get away with implementing a LAN,Wi-Fi digital network policy. SEGA Net this time around would be done differently. Wi-Fi networks can now be used and can remain free and cheap to run. Back in 1999-2000, none of these things existed yet and running Mainframes interfaces through modem and ethernet was pretty costly. Also remember, SEGA doesn't use the PC OEM for home consumers, Their consoles were always designed using off-the-shelf components and inexpensive silicon that technically is capable of mimicking PC hardware. Dreamcast's SH-4 CPU was similar to a low end Pentium II, but was initially designed for use in Hybrid Cars. This policy gave SEGA the upper hand in development costs regarding software. THIS is WHY they NEED to come back. This is what WE'VE been missing. The days of $40-50 games. The reason why we don't see this has nothing to do with inflation, its development costs and budgets that have be ballooning. since 2006. Developers and publishers are suffering BECAUSE of this.


4. I agree. The reason why SEGA stopped advertising in 2000 because their were running low in cash. SEGA used to have strong marketing skills, they just had sloppy management. If you think about the advantages SEGA now has compared to the mid/late 90s, like Social Networking,mobile media, YouTube, SEGA can use these tools in ways they couldn't. SEGA has money, TV and Internet advertising is not all the rage now. The media of today makes it cheaper than 16 years ago.

5. A SEGA/Apple joint venture and partnership was speculated briefly and is STILL likely. There are people that keep claiming that Apple will get into the console business on their own, without doing research and realizing that Apple has ZERO plans for 1st party and console gaming. They are more focused on making sure MAC dominates the American PC market, planning a mini PC industry and have plans for opening up an Electronics retail chain and getting into the digital cable game. SEGA and Apple likewise are strong partners of each other. SEGA was in fact the first publisher to support iOS. There's also Toshiba, they used to do business with Sony but now have turned their backs completely on them Toshiba is also outselling Sony's Electronics by 2 to 1 margins. Toshiba certainly wouldn't mind a SEGA joint venture. Their pretty hellbent on making Sony suffer after the cheap under-handing done to force HD-DVD out.

6. Again excellent point made. SEGA was very good at marketing back in the day. They've seen the benefits of today's media. They MUST aggressively use it to their advantage.

7. SEGA both needs to get back their own talented producers, and DUMP the furry freaks weirdos that run the Sonic franchise today. Sonic shouldn't be on a non SEGA console. He BELONGS solely on a SEGA console and no other. That was WHAT he was created for. What would Nintendo fanboy retards say if Nintendo released Mario games on other platforms, how would they feel? Also SEGA can keep and salvage Sonic's supporting cast, they've just got to find a way to market them. This is a huge advantage the franchise over Mario. Mario's support cast is completely useless except Yoshi and maybe Koopa and the Koopa Kids, Rouge can be likeable and very popular outside of just horny male gamers. We're already seeing Tails begin to become more popular in way's he's never been. Amy is Sonic's "Minnie" but SEGA needs to make her a "no-nonesense" character so that she can be reckoned with. Knuckles is currently nothing more than a hasbeen. He was immensly popular in his day, but has a very bland personality. Like Sonic, he needs a female counterpart, Same Species but has a polar opposite personality and tomboyish image. Shade is the answer. Shadow is fine the way he is and so is Blaze.


8. The mis-management of the CSK years led to too much designs and too many home consumer products with not enough resources to support them long enough. I can assure you, SEGA will NEVER EVER make that mistake again. They've learned to just stick with at least 2 to 3 successful SKUs and retire one of them once a new one is on its way.

9. As long as the budget is conservative and the BOMs are cheap. SEGA can ship as much units as demanded without taking losses and like Wii can gain strong profit.

10. SEGA has GOT to listen to the fans who still love and care about them. Fans who are glad to see that they are STILL alive and well after everything that's happened over the past 15 years. They need to fully understand, that their software consumers aren't SEGA fans. Just Nintendo and Sony fans who only care about the IPs SEGA makes if their exclusive to their favorite consoles. Nintendo fans think SEGA can be brought for a couple of billion too stupid and immature to realize that SEGA's assets are worth well over $30 billion and Sony fans are just annoyed that SEGA is still going and thought for sure they'd go under in like 2006 or so. Sony fans FEAR SEGA returning to hardware.(It's their reoccurring worse nightmare that they tell themselves will hopefully never come true) Because they KNOW the potential and luck SEGA would have this time around and that Sony is not the brand giant they used to be.

SEGA needs to understand, that these people don't give a DAMN about you. They started buying post Dreamcast and couldn't give to shits about Sega CD or anything else. Most Sonic fanatics don't even play other SEGA games.

I'm confident SEGA will follow all these commandments in the near future. They've been out of the game for 12 years. Do people really think that they DIDN'T learn anything after all this time? I don't think so.
