There is actually. The early release on betamax is missing one of C-3PO's lines about the tractor beam in A New Hope. The later release has it. I don't know if there's any other differences.
They pop up on eBay a lot for cheap.

Those are the same as what Kitsune was talking about. They're not taken directly from the masters as the advertising implies but were sourced from the laserdisc versions. Still, about as close as you're going to get.Quote:

Technically, there was no release of the theatrical versions ever since the special editions were released in '97. The 2006 DVD release had the theatrical versions as mere bonus content.Quote:

I think my Star Wars VHS is from the early or mid-eighties and already has the episode 4 crawl. Not sure if VHS versions without a mention of episode 4 exist?
I am not a fan of any form of media that is inherently made to deteriorate with every use. That rules out for me VHS, Cassette tapes, floppies and vinyl records.
