Disney doesn't own the distribution rights of the six movies until 2020, and Fox has the rights of A New Hope in perpetuity.

i know
that will make a box set of any kind very very very difficult
and im sure fox will milk episode 4 for all its worth ( it is after all the first star wars movie )
so for now stick to the vhs tapes the laser discs and the 2006 special editions
the blu rays suck with even more pointless additions
hey are there any betamax star wars tapes ?
There is actually. The early release on betamax is missing one of C-3PO's lines about the tractor beam in A New Hope. The later release has it. I don't know if there's any other differences.
They pop up on eBay a lot for cheap.
i never had betamax so i was just wondering
^
never seen that before
wouldnt mind having that box
the special edition i was talking about is a 2 dvd set per movie
dvd 1 has the 2004 dvd version
dvd 2 the transferred laser disc version
Those are the same as what Kitsune was talking about. They're not taken directly from the masters as the advertising implies but were sourced from the laserdisc versions. Still, about as close as you're going to get.
The "Special Edition" DVDs were the horrible ones released in 2004 which, among other things, included Hayden Christensen at the end of Jedi. The "Limited Edition" were the ones released in 2006 with essentially the 2004 versions on the first disk and the laserdisc "Original Theatrical" versions on the second disk.
My only complaints against the 2004 releases were the audio of Episode IV and the complete disregard for some of the effects like lightsabers when they made the restoration and colour correction of the movie. I have no problem with most of the special edition changes, although I wish they had released a proper transfer of the theatrical versions.
Geeze, so there's VHS, LaserDisc, Betamax, and DVD releases that all lack the new pointless crap, but no Blu-Ray version of it?
nope
infact the blu ray has even more pointless crap
the rocky alcove r2 hides in in episode 4 after kenobi chases off the sand peopel is suddenly mostly filled with stone and no awnser how the fuck r2 got in there
next scene when he rolls along with kenobi the digital stone is gone again
and in jedi while the emperor is torturing luke vader roars NOOOOOOOOO as he springs in to action
and thats just what i can remember
if you want star wars with out pointless crap your only choices are the 93 laser discs or the 2006 limited editions
ah is ee
the ones we got over here in europe dont come with a box or a comic
just the 2 dvd's
I think my Star Wars VHS is from the early or mid-eighties and already has the episode 4 crawl. Not sure if VHS versions without a mention of episode 4 exist?
I am not a fan of any form of media that is inherently made to deteriorate with every use. That rules out for me VHS, Cassette tapes, floppies and vinyl records.
