More reasons to hate Gamestop

I agree things were much better when there was actual competition.

But maybe I'm just being nostalgic about when I could walk into EB and the shelves were lined with big-box PC games that no doubt had wonderful manuals and other extras. Those were the days.

I remember going to the old EB Games in my mall and seeing Japanese games and toys. Can you imagine them carrying imported games nowadays?

I agree that Gamestop is a business, but as a business with terrible practices, I ensure that I never do business with them. Gamestop can do what they want because people allow them to do so. For all the hate this company receives never do I pass one by where there aren't customers inside. People (gamers) see quick and easy money and nothing more when selling games at such a chain. I don't blame GS at all for being in business to make money. Rather, I blame the people who allow themselves to be taken for a ride.

I never sell to these guys, and only buy things out of the bargain bin (like sub-$10 games). The prices they charge for used games are not much less than new, and oftentimes I can find new games for less than their used prices.

Some day gaming will go all digital, for better or for worse, and Gamestop will likely be unable to adapt their business and go the way of Blockbuster, as someone mentioned before. I will not be sad to se them go.

I don't buy games from people that don't know jack shit about video games and are only hired to make money.

Not having my same opinion on video games has nothing to do with one's ability to operate a cash register.

They're video games not vintage wine. They're packaged to be sold at a retail venue. I don't know why you think there should be some kind of requirement for this beyond the same requirement required of selling anything else at retail.

I mean if you've found an independent store that you enjoy going to and you like chatting up the employees/owner then good for you, that's great. Keep doing that.

But I don't expect a retail employee to know about or care about whatever I'm buying because I'm buying the game for me, not them. I also don't expect anyone at the grocery store to give me tips on fine dining.

Honestly I buy most of my games online. I have no idea if the person on the other end even knows what a video game is. And I don't care.
