SSF: Who uses it?

SSF/Sega Saturn Fantasy by Shima is right now the best Saturn emulator. Most modern PCs can run it just fine. My only problem has been that it is not compatible with my current PC, though I have had much success with it in the past on another machine. I can only hope it gets better because it's already amazing and lightyears ahead of Yabause. I hope to use it again to play my original game discs when I buy a new PC in the near future. I have also spoken to Shima on twitter a few times. Who else has used it and what are your feelings towards it so far?

Where can I download Sega Saturn Fantasy? I'd like to try it!

I use it on a Pentium 4 3.0ghz. I can still play some games with it almost perfectly. The latest version i tried works with every ISO i have. The only problem i have with this emulator is the bios stuff. It doesn't change the bios automatically, you have to change it every time you load a game from a different region. This makes it a pain to use in Hyperspin (for instance).

You can chose to play without a bios at all but some games will have problems, like Duke Nukem 3D which doesn't display the UI without a proper European Bios (US version doesn't work). Thankfully there is a hacked multi-bios that seems to work fine but haven't tested it thoughtfully. Also, there is no ISO loader, you have to use Daemon and stuff like that. Thankfully, Hyperspin supports these so i guess it isn't a huge issue.

is that former girigiri? I used that 10 years ago when my saturn broke for a while. worked very well alreayd back then. pretty much flawless

Shima only speaks japanese so feedback from international users might be diffcult, but this guy has done an excellent job with this emulator. I only wish he'd do Mac and Linux ports. I might donate to him sometime. Judging by the progress, I assume we'll have virtually complete Saturn emulation within the next 5 years hopefully.

^ Damn language barrier. I'm going to give this a shot! Are the menus in Japanese? I guess I can use trial and error. I can recognize some basic characters and learn some through repetition.

No. Cassini was the Girigiri hack, SSF is a standalone ongoing project.

SSF is excellent, very accurate. Shame about the lack of mac/linux versions.

SSF is the only Saturn emulator I have gotten to work. I've pretty much only used it to find the true resolution of games, and once to discover whether Dead or Alive's explosions were true transparency or dithered since they blend even in S-Video on an HD set due to the resolution. Oh yeah, and I also used it to play Stellar Assault since I can't afford the real thing. I'm glad I did too as it is a much more standard Space Shooter than the 32X game is and doesn't retain the unique "speed run" mechanics of the original.

Well, it's not as accurate as I would like at times. I know some games like Street Fighter Alpha 3 have speed and audio issues.

SSF is great. It does have some issues with virtua fighter kids, though. That's the only problem I've had with it.

It is considering how hard the Saturn is to emulate properly.

It's been damn near 20 years since the Saturn was released and we still don't have 100% emulation.

Well, its still much better emulation than what we have for Atari Jaguar.

Also, does 100% emulation even exist at all for anything newer than the 16bit generation?
