IGN just gave The Last of Us a perfect 10/10. I just might have to snag a copy for myself.

Its like i'm looking at a movie ad. It can't get more mainstream than that!
Anyway, not a game for me. I don't like games with heavy focus on story and cinematic direction. And i find Ellen Page annoying.
might have been worth the wait
but ill wait for the price to drop
got enough to play as it is especially with a ps plus sub
I wouldn't trust an IGN review for a second. That said, I will check out the demo soon. It looks more appealing than Uncharted to me.
I don't think I've ever seen so many 10s for a video game before. I've been excited for it, but this is just crazy!
Equating it to Citizen Kane?? Maybe we have finally arrived!
I'm going to get this as soon as I can. I thought Ellen Page was in BEYOND: Two Souls...
then again ...zombies
im suddenly not all that interested anymore
im sick to fucking death of zombies i had hoped for something more post apocalyptic with out zombies
definitley waiting for a price drop now
Are there zombies in The Last of Us? That would be sort of lame.
from ars technia "Naughty Dog crafts a thrilling, beautiful, exceptionally human zombie apocalypse story."
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/0...-the-infected/
so there goes my interest
i am sick to fucking death of zombies and i had hoped this would not have any zombies but it does i had hoped it would be more along the lines of sos the final escape or that ubisoft game where you have to traverse a ruined city
i had hoped it woudl be post apocalyptic with human antagonists in what remained of civilisation
instead its the zombie apocalypse
i dont care how great its supposed to be
im sick and tired of zombies in any way shape or form so i will be skipping this
^ I'm reading Edge Online... They say it's because of a mutated fungus. So they're mutated fungus zombies. That's different!
Since joining Sony, Naughty Dog has never let me down. Easily one of the best developers on the planet. There was never any question I was going to get this game. Hearing the stunning accolades it's getting just reinforces that.
The PS3 is the definitive 7th gen console, even without The Last Guardian. Anyway I detested Nathan Drake, so this game should be refreshing.
My apologies. You have to have God of War Ascension in order to obtain early access to the demo. I should have been more specific. For those of you without GOWA, you'll have to wait until a later date to get the demo. This game remides me a lot of a movie called "The Road", which is a good thing. This is not a "zombie" game. The humans enemies are more plentiful and are more dangerous that the infected.
BTW here is Adam Sessler's The Last of Us review for those of you who care.

My problem with this game is pretty much the same as I had with Bioshock Infinite. They want to use the game medium to tell a story that sets itself apart from the rest, but the main way the player interacts with the world is still just simplistic, repetive violence. It's really starting to show how stagnant this industry is when developers cannot or even aren't willing to find alternative interactivity which fits the cinematic narratives they're aiming for. If you want to keep the Citizen Kane analogy (which is just kind of dumb) then imagine if they had to fill that movie out with a bunch of mindless action scenes.
I don't usually go the pre-order route. I have for this one, though.
I detest an aspect in certain games that shove boring and drawn out gun/fist fights down your throat (the one negative of the Uncharted series). There's nothing worse than exploring an interesting area and all of a sudden you have to spend the next half an hour shooting everything that moves. There needs to be more of a stealth aspect where you're almost too afraid to attack an enemy, so you would rather sneak past them, which adds great tension.
So the following is particularly good news for me,
Quote:
Naughty Dog's survival action game, The Last of Us, lets players set the pace of their experience through dynamic stealth and action, according to game designer Ricky Cambier.
Speaking to Polygon, Cambier said The Last of Us differs from many other survival action games because it doesn't bombard players with a constant stream of action. There are moments where players can reflect, make plans and assess the situation they're in, and when chaos breaks loose, "it's not going to be [about] stealth anymore," and they may need to fire a few bullets or run.
Cambier said the studio struck a balance between the game's action and stealth by "creating one of the most emergent gameplay styles that we have at Naughty Dog," which is systemic and allows player agency to determine the pace of the game.
This is a manifestation of everything bad about modern gaming.
And everyone already knows that Streets of Rage 2 is the Citizen Kane of video games.
The original Half-Life possibly.
I hope this doesn't become a trend where every major release is suddenly "TEN OUT OF TEN AWESOME!" Actually maybe that wouldn't be so bad then we could stop relying on video game journalism entirely.
Anyway I'm sure it's good but I'm not really interested. I'm just so sick of post-apocalyptic shit in games and movies and TV. I'm especially sick of it when it involves zombies in any way. That's all science fiction is anymore. It's depressing.
Don't let Hollywood hear you, dammit. They'll do it.
I wish I could get me some of that 10 out of 10 money. Maybe I need to set up a review site.
If you think sony doesn't have enough money to pay off a few dorks then your the one drinking some serious kool-aid. Besides that money is already allocated into the budget for promoting the game. Naughty dog is awesome, but it's still another post apocalyptic, zombie shooter. I would at least expect a couple of 9s in there. It's also interesting how all but one of those publications use the 10 out of 10 scoring system. I wonder how many of them are owned by the same people?
So Sony paid off The Daily Mail too? Let's face it a lot of people think highly of this game, let's leave it at that.
Destructoid gave The Last of Us a 10. Destructoid does not give easy 10s.
Funny how much negative response there is in this thread to a game that isn't even out yet. As for me, I liked the Uncharted games, and am looking forward to this one (when it comes down to $20, which is the most I spend on games:)).
There was a similar 10/10 hysteria for Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite, and in retrospect neither game was groundbreaking despite weaving a good story. What's disturbing is that when BI came out the reviewers glossed over the mundane gameplay parts and sold us on the story alone.
You want some 9s or lower. Here ya go.
Game Informer 9.5 http://www.gameinformer.com/games/th...sterpiece.aspx
Gamespot 8.0 http://www.gamespot.com/the-last-of-...=Topslot;Slot3
Polygon 7.5 http://www.polygon.com/game/the-last-of-us/3040
Wait, don't tell me, Sony only paid off certain people right? Old man if you really think this is a conspiracy by Sony, then you old man are suffering from dementia, lol.
"DESTRUCTOID, EST. IN 2006, IS A RAW, INDEPENDENT NEWS COMPANY DEDICATED TO VIDEOGAMES CRITICISM. WE ARE ALSO HOME TO A COMMUNITY OF GAMERS."
Definitely not paid off.

By the unmistakable Jim Sterling. I dare you to read it. It's an actual, critical review.
To be sure, universal acclaim from the gaming press does not always equate to a good game. I've never understood the attraction to GTA games. GTA IV gets a ridiculously high average score on Metacritic, yet I found the game to be dull and uninteresting. I realize part of this is personal preference, but it does illustrate that you can't rely on universal love as a guarantee you will like a game.
That being said, from the reviews I've read now, the gameplay, style, quality and feel of the game seem like something I would like.
There's definitely this new trend of "This game does not have an abysmal story therefore it is perfect".
You can believe advertisements if you want to, but I'm pretty skeptical of perfection. Thanks for the links, though. I think it gives a better overall picture. And yes I believe reviews can and will be bought as long as there are things being reviewed. (Car and Driver anyone?) It's not a conspiracy. It's just the way the world works, like out of context quotes on DVD boxes or books. You can't take anything at face value.
Straight from Destructoid:
"Flawless Victory: Games rated 10 aren't perfect, since nothing is, but they come as close as you could get in a given genre. The new must-have game in its sector, we're talking pure ecstasy. Check out more reviews or the Destructoid score guide."
Also, about the "This game does not have an abysmal story therefore it is perfect" comment, read the Destructoid review. Have you played it yet Kamahl? The Destructoid review is critical of gameplay elements. Do I have to copy and paste the whole review to make someone read it before they automatically dismiss it as "Just like IGN, 10/10 no review, paid off."?
And yet it got a 10/10. To me a 10/10 should be something that gets everything right. Not perfect of course, nothing is, but getting everything right isn't the same as perfect, perfect implies no improvement is possible. 10/10 means so far nobody did it better *in all areas*.
The game got a 10/10 because it doesn't have an abysmal story. Same deal with Bioshock Infinite (and I fully admit to have loved that game for it's story and setting).
