Call it a bonus then. XBL Gold membership was required to play any game online, while online gaming was always free with PSN on the PS3. You also got bonus games with the Vita, if you owned that as well. It paid for itself with a couple of bonus games, while XBL Gold only offered the online service, as well as the ability to watch Netflix, which should have been a free service.

XBL was always more restrictive with 3rd parties, while PSN was more lenient. It's why Gabe Newell chose the PS3 for a console exclusive content of Portal 2, because he didn't like how MS was trying to manipulate their online structure for their games. You also had cross-platform play between the PS3, MAC and PC.

I don't know, seemed to me like both paid for themselves with a couple of free games. ... except for when PSN+ when it gave me a free digital version of Demons Souls - now with space aids memory leak. Thanks for nothing, Sony. :p

But at least the free Demons Souls game helped increase it's online player user base. Just so long as I personally don't have to play that terrible version ever again. ... I think the main problem was that the game was originally all off the disk and that they didn't port it correctly to the PS3 in digital only form.

Now I'm getting confused. PSN and PSN+? Isn't it only the PSN+ with the free games, and hasn't PSN+ always been a pay for free games and price saving deals kind of thing?

It was way more than that. It's cloud saves, so you could play your game on any PS3. It's early access to game betas. And Sony produced shows for your television. The free games were a bonus for being a PS+ member.

More like "Thief's PS4 Buyers Remorse Butthurt Thread". Actually the mods could gather Thief's post from half a dozen threads and dump them under that thread title.

All of it is kind of irrelevant now. Xbox fixed a lot of the service shit the One launch, and they stepped up to throw 4 games a month at Gold subscribers. They already have cloud saves, they have EA Access and Gamepass coming which Sony only offers via streaming.

I'd seriously like to see a solid reason to buy the PS4 Pro. I don't. Since I was all in on 360 and One, Microsoft is giving me every excuse to just shrug about it and upgrade to Scorpio. If I could play PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, PSP and Vita games all on a "PS5" or whatever they want to call it, then I would buy a Playstation without hesitation.


Voice chat is still cancer regardless of platform. Last time I used my Xbox headset was to teach a frustrated teenager how to play Killer Instinct while I totally kicked his ass. He stopped screaming and cursing when I responded to him and taught the basics.

It's simmered down to a comparison of services now. But, yeah, the pages upon pages of putting Xbox on a pedestal on a PlayStation-dedicated thread should definitely go under the Xbox thread.

I enjoy both platforms (any generation), and I would hate just as much going over to the Xbox thread only to find out there is literally no conversation whatsoever regarding the Xbox platform; let alone someone talking smack about the Xbox platform when all I want to do is to cordially talk about said platform were I to visit that thread. 'Same goes to all other platforms.

Thief is entitled to his rants. He could've even placed just a couple in this thread. But I'd love it if he kept it thread-oriented.

Also I don't mind chatting with people but I usually use Discord for anything serious. As far as console chatting, I only talk to a select few people I've known for years. I have 0 desire to talk to kids or people who have never worked a real job in their life.

Quick question, how many of you have actually made your money back in free games and deals by subscribing to PSN+ and XLA Gold? I can honestly say I haven't, because have yet to play any of these free games outside of 2 digital duplicates of games I own physically of already (DS1 & 2).

360 has cloud too. Though I don't think it's as convenient as on PS3 where it automatically adds your saves to cloud - but I could be wrong.

EA Early Access is cancer. Don't any of you support it.

Instead promote real X-Bone advantages like fan mods that allow outside assets and the ultimate controller that gives you ultimate control called "The Elite."

Never played a fighting game online on Microsoft and Sony consoles, but it sure would sound interesting with voice chat.

That reminds me, some Sony PS3 players actually use Discord as a workaround for Sony not providing them party & private chat. Or even a proper text chat that doesn't lag.

And come on, talking to kids who never worked a real job in their life is called "innocence." And it rubs off on us older more crusty folk.
